Ergonomic Keys: Toggle Ctrl and Alt keys
Boneyard Spleeneater
I have been playing a lot lately, and I have been noticing that my right hand hurts (from holding down the button to steer), and my left hand hurts (from the contorted position my hand has to take to to hold down the ctrl and alt keys).
I suggest that these keys be toggles, or at least there be a setting for such function.
Of course, part of the problem could be that I switched recently from an ergonmic keyboard to a regular keyboard. the g11 is great, but I wish it split in the middle

I find Alt and Ctrl to be fine but then I have small fingers. I can see how it's be annoying. Besides, it's not hard to make them reassignable.

I have them in more comfortable positions, but for them to be made into a toggle on off mode shouldn't be that time consuming for a programmer either.
I'm all for more choice

Alter the default keybindings to something that is easier on your hand. Problem solved.
I think its fine as is. If it bothers you a lot as is, there are ways to change it w/o having to add a new feature to the game.

Some people are responding by saying "just change the controls to fix the problem". You should realise that the OP is asking for a new option so that he can change the controls in a way that currently isn't possible. The OP is asking for a new _option_ for customising the controls in order to maximise comfort and minimise damage from RSI and other keyboard injuries. I think it's a fair suggestion and it would not have a negative impact on those who like the controls the way they are.

I would very much like a toggable ctrl-key. I'm always walking around with that key pressed, mostly alt too, and it gets indeed straining after some time.
Mapping those functions to other keys would just force me to keep 2 other keys pressed down all the time, and would not solve the problem in OP's post.

i always have to reassign from a WASD movement setup to an ESDF movement setup. i remapped ctrl to a, and alt to the space bar. i remapped the space bar functionality to the t key. this allows my large hands to remain comfortable while playing. (it pains me to play on my sons computers because of the WASD ctrl alt space setup forces me to contort my hands in ways they aren't meant to bend).
customize your keybindings and interface to what works best for you.

I did that before. It even has a poll.

And here is another 'save our hands' suggestion:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10188379
You can't make the keys toggleable with the options in the F11. And IT DOESN'T MATTER which key is the function bound to,when you must hold it for long periods of time.
When there are already 9 keys I must be stroking all the time, changing two of them so I don't need to hold them is heaven for my hands.
"Select next enemy" is pressen until you find the target. Same for nearest ally, for nearest item, nearest enemy, run, default action...
But 'show enemies' and 'show items and allies' are not 'hit once and done' keys. It is very usefull to hold them.
Have you ever used the 'run' key? It's a hold toggle. Click once, character runs, click again, character stops. You may not use that, but I do, because it saves me fro holding W a lot of time.
If you think this matter is retarded, either you don't understand what is this suggestion talking about or well... any of the other option don't say anything good about you.
Hand safety and health is VERY IMPORTANT. Ask Logitech.

I would like to have the option for the game to leave ctrl and alt on without holding buttons down. Changed it too so it doesn't announce skill usage while it would be in toggle on mode.

I've just been experimenting with this using EventGhost (had to do some hacking so it would just send keydown/keyup events rather than both). I made the Windows key toggle both at once for testing purposes.
The difference in usability is amazing. I've suffered significant stiffness, approaching pain at times during and after long sessions because I'm holding down both ctrl and alt most of the time. By turning it into a toggle that all goes away.
Whilst I don't think it would be bannable, I'm not going to use it until I've asked support if it is OK, but this is definitely something that should be available in the options.

As Mithran said, it's been mentioned before.
