Question about buying GW!!

Okay, so I want to purchase GW, and I see 5 options to buy..

Guild Wars Trilogy $50

Guild Wars GotY Edition $20

Guild Wars Factions $30

Guild Wars Nightfall $30

Guild Wars Eye of the North $30

So as far as I can figure out, there are 3 "games" - factions, nightfall and eye of the north.
Purchasing the Trilogy gives you all three, or you can buy them seperately.
SO I guess my question is what does the GotY edition get me? Only factions? Or none? Or all?
If it's only factions I don't understand why someone would pay $30 for factions when they can get the GotY edition for 10 dollars less?

I'm confused about which version to buy.
THANKS!

None

There are 4 games, Prophecies (just "Guild Wars"), Nightfall, Factions and Eye Of The North, They are all stand alone games with the exception of EOTN. GOTY is an edition of prophecies, the origional game. The Triology has all except EOTN.

There are also 2 more packs availible, The Complete Collection has every game, but is only availible in certain countries, the other is a pack containing Prophecies and EOTN.
I and most of the other users of this forum will probably think that you should get the trilogy (or complete collection if its availible.)

OK so on the trial when I click "new character" it gives me the option of 3 games... those are prophesies nightfall and factions? If i buy eye of the north too where does that go?

ALSO if I buy factions or nightfall, will it autmatically give me prophecies too or no? Do i need to have propecies before i can buy another expansion?

Eye of the North is interpolated into all 3 Campaigns. You don't get any new character classes with it, but you get a hell of alot more gameplay. Basically when you get to level 10 in any of the campaigns you can access Eye of the North, but you can't create a character there you have to work up to it. I personally think it is one of my favourite campaigns but some people don't like it.

Eye of the North is an expansion, you can't create characters in it, you can only use existing ones to get there.

If you buy Factions or Nightfall, no it will not give you prophecies, so if you started your character in Prophecies you won't be able to use it.

You can get the game of the year edition for $10 at NewEgg but it would probably be cheaper to get the trilogy.

1. Guild Wars (the original, now called Prophecies)
2. Guild Wars: Factions (first separate campaign)
3. Guild Wars: Nightfall (second separate campaign)
4. Guild Wars: Eye of the North (expansion)

The "Game of the Year" is a version of Prophecies that gets you some good starter weapons on top of the original campaign. The Trilogy is 1-3 on my list (all campaigns, no expansion) and is the best buy for someone getting started (in my opinion). You won't need Eye of the North until you get finished with all 3 of the campaigns... there's PLENTY of content wrapped up in the first 3 games. Eye of the North gets you some extra prestige armors and some stronger PvE only skills along with some more difficult areas (dungeons and the like), but a shorter gameplay sequence than any of the campaigns.

0 to 20 (max level) in under a day with factions, I'll never level a character in any other campaign again. I own all 4, but my characters are all Canthan.

so where can I get the trilogy the cheapest?
Preferably on online store - also it would be great to get the code without actually being mailed the product since i have already downloaded the game

GoGamer is usually the cheapest when they have it in stock $36 with shipping. NewEgg $47 and Amazon $47 (watch out Amazon doesn't up the price when you put it in your shopping cart!) would be the other two choices, both with free shipping.

I don't know of any places that will just send you the keycode and I would advise against doing that. If there is ever a problem with your account, ArenaNet may ask for pictures of the actual keycode. Plus it is nice to have the box, manual and the disc in case you need to reinstall.

Prophecies + EotN = "Guild Wars Platinum Edition"

There's also the Guild Wars: Factions Platinum Edition, which is the Game of the Year Edition of Prophecies, Factions and the Bonus Mission Pack.

This is not being mean but that is so wrong. Get the physical product, you will thank me. Whenever you go into a new area, it has to be downloaded. Sounds simple but over time they really build up and become noticeable. I dont have the fastest connection but the speed is purposely slower through the game... one time I went into a mission's area that I hadn't downloaded and the group was literally halfway done the mission already before the game was done downloading and decompressing. Yes you can use --image to get the stuff but that's an extra step. With the discs too you can use them on friends other computers if they want to try the game (yeah I know, technically not legal, but if they paid for their own account I don't see what the harm is).
