I've been having this problem lately.. A while ago, everything was just fine, the in-game sound worked as it should, but I muted everything (lowered the volume to 0) so I could play some music in the background. Now it doesn't seem to work.. I can only hear music and background audio. No effects, dialog, or UI volume.. what could have caused this, and how do I fix it?
~Thanks
Edit: It just fixed itself... Nevermind.
Edit: Or not.. seems like I don't hear attack sounds.. Or maybe that's because of all the minions dieing >_> Better mute it all again.

I've noticed similar problems with my return to this game. I hadn't really noticed it before because I usually play ranged professions, but with my new warrior I'm noticing that unless I position the camera behind enemies the combat sound is very muffled, almost to the point you can't hear it.
I play with 3D Audio Hardware and EAX enabled, so it makes sense that rotating the camera towards the enemy would make it louder, but it doesn't make sense that combat should be so quiet just because the camera is positioned behind my character.

Seems like my sound is broken after all.. I turn everything on, and I do hear some sounds, but not all of them. For example, I hear sounds when I attack, my character makes a sound when he swings and I hear a sound of the scythe hitting, but I don't hear any sounds of casting enchantments, or them ending.. I also hear minions >_>, but not walking, spellcasting etc. It's annoying.
Any ideas?

you can try deleting GW.dat and reinstalling it with the -image command. it might be because your GW.dat is corrupted somehow.

And how exactly do I do it? Delete the GW.dat file, and add -image to the target line on the shortcut, or what?

yes you have it right, but search the topic on these forums and you will find more details about it.
It will take 6+ hours to image the whole .dat file on a typical DSL connection.
