I have been playing GW for about 2 years now, and when i first started i used an assasin but quickly got bored with it and made a healer... the rest is history. lately ive been seeing allot of people talking about using sin's to solo so i thought i would make one and give it a shot... i use the pvx wiki to guide me with my builds, and i already have a decent solo build... my question is where can i find a solid build to use just for playing the game (mission's and quests). i have searched through the pvx and i havent really found anything solid. most of the builds there seem to be area specific, or made for solo. any help you can offer would be much appreciated... I'm sure i am not the only one to wonder about this. Thanks again for any help
p.s. forgive the typo's i just woke up hehe

2 Years and you dont seem to know anything about them :P
My favourite assassin build to run is Critscythe, you pump out unbelievable amounts of damage
[Wounding Strike] [Eremite's Attack] [Mystic Sweep] [Malicious Strike] [Asuran Scan] [Aura of Holy Might] [Way of the Master] [Critical Agility]

Well, if you're running a dagger, scythe or whatever assassin, Critical Agility is a must. There's no excuse not to run it, as it gives you a nice 33% IAS plus +20 armor
Critscythe is pretty popular because of the huge damage you can do with Aura of Holy Might, Asuran Scan and a high critical hit rate (200ish with Mystic Sweep iirc).
There's also the famed Moebius Blossom which uses Moebius Strike to repeatedly use Death Blossom. People use Golden Phoenix Strike to compress the bar but Golden Fang Strike and Golden Fox Strike are also used. Asuran Scan, "Save Yourselves!" and/or You move like a dwarf are the other PvE-only skills that usually come with it, any other optionals are up to you.
There's also the caster sin, which uses the Deadly Arts line to deal damage. The basic layout is Dancing Daggers, Entangling Asp and Signet of Toxic Shock. After that you can go /Me and pick Lyssa's Aura as your elite and put Deadly Paradox in, because Lyssa's Aura energy regeneration allows you to pay its expensive cost. The one I like is Assassin's Promise as it allows me to recharge other non-assassin skills like Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support and "Finish Him!".
There's many other builds but thats all the time I have for now. You won't regret making your assassin its quite fun to do other stuff with it!

if you want an assassin just to run missions and the storyline, i suggest you don't bother. unless you can thoroughly enjoy the class mechanics (shadowstepping and combos), don't bother.
an assassin in PvE becomes a tank thanks to Critical Agility, and as much as i love the skill and how it was needed for the general survivability of an assassin, it ruins the class. yes the scythe build is fun and very damaging but i don't think you should go all out just to use it in PvE (especially seeing that you've already spent 2 years on a monk).
if you are to make an assassin, i suggest having a long term goal of easing it into PvP play, where it gets much more fun (however the meta is blugh atm).
the quickest way through PvE right now is with discord way and sabway (for those who can't run discord way). i suggest looking into these team builds and use them on your monk.
note: sins can run discord way too.

thanks for pointing that out Grim!!
thank you @ Masmar, RadaArashi, and Fate. That is exactly the information i was looking for.
Fate my main purpose in making this assassin (better grim? lol) is to eventually be able to do solo runs, but i would like to get through the main quests first. I definetly dont plan on not using my monk anymore. I just want to be able to have more options as far as solo runs are concerned. Though solo monk has been fairly profitable, running the same area's over and over again can get a little on the boring side. Assassin seemed like the right class for me to build next only because it seems a little more versitile then a monk.
as far as PVP is concerned i really have never spent to much time on it. as i said before i have been playing for 2 years, and i still havent grown bored of the PVE aspect of the game. Perhapes this is the wrong place to ask this, but would it really be profitable to play PVP with an assassin?
Thanks again folks for the advice and help. Hope i can return the favor someday

Well when you get into highend area's your going to need Glyph of Swiftness, Deadly paradox and Shadow form, and most of the time sliver armour, EBSoH, bu urals etc.
Discordway is an effective way to get through the games but its pretty tedius, and if you want to run a "real" assassin build sabway is probably the way to go, although having a rt/mo with SoH and splinter etc is GREAT fun

Critical Scythe (as listed above), Moebius Blossom (with many variants, but the core of the build is simple), AP Discord feed with Discord heroes, and Critical Barrage are the staple builds of my, and of most, Assassins.

I'm not really sure why people respond in these types of threads like "Oh, you want to play an assassin huh? Well you'd have an easier time in the game playing *insert class here*, so forget the assassin and play this class!"
I guess if they wanted to play that class they wouldn't be asking about assassins.
I don't know much about high end pvp, or even pve really since I've only recently come back after a long break, but play whatever you want.

I'm going to ignore all the other posts in this thread and respond solely to the OP.
An A/W with Moebius Death Blossom (insert lead/offhands of your choice...anything works really) and Save Yourselves! OR an A/D with Wounding Strike, Way of the Master and other critical hit enhancing options with a scythe are your best options for damage dealing in regular PvE. As a starting Assassin, I highly recommend being A/W, and picking up the other secondaries as you can, /E, /Me, /D & /N being priorities, in that order. Elites to pick up are Moebius Strike, Shadow Form, Assassin's Promise in that order, and then others to taste. I like to bring Temple Strike, Palm Strike & Flashing Blades on my Sin when I am really really reallllllly bored so you might want to look into that. Also consider capping stuff like Wounding Strike and a couple of the warrior elites (Earthshaker on a Crit Agility Sin is insane fun), but the core builds will get you through 95% of the game's PvE.
PS: Forgot to add, take your Assassin through EoTN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The PvE skills make your job a lot easier as an up and coming sin. Max out your Ebon Vanguard, Asura, Delver & Norn ranks (in that order) for epic PvE rapeage.

Assassins are definitely a lot of fun, and they seem to be great farmers so it's probably worth the effort to play an assassin if you want to farm with him.
I'm currently working through the campaigns with my assassin (I have factions finished, working on nightfall now, and prophecies is mostly done. Don't have eye of the north yet) and it's great fun so far, and not too bad. I'm mostly using the moebius strike/death blossom spamming build and it's working great, and a lot of fun. For certain things in factions, such as the final mission fighting shiro, I've used more tanking type builds. Assassins are pretty flexible like that.
