Has any1 else had trouble acquiring licensing rights for Sorrow's Furnace music?

I'm trying to download the Sorrow's Furnace music pak from Directsong, but I'm having trouble acquiring the license rights. Did any1 else have trouble and find a solution to getting the rights?

If not, is there another place I can get the music?

I can download it because I made account there and applied for promotion while it was still in place, so it remains under my directsong account rights to redownload it whence I desire. If you downloaded it from other source I'm not sure it will work, since it's a customized directsong installer that first checks if you have the rights to the soundtrack and then makes sure that the music will be played in your background in gw if you are in SF. Unless playing music in winamp instead will be enough for you, what I doubt. It's stupid they have removed it, though, since now you can't even pay for it if you wanted to get the music (for that sole reason, why Anet didn't merge the music to game files instead? ... so unprofessional).

if i'm not wrong, directsong removed the license files.. that's why you are having trouble locating it

Hmm, I see they updated the DirectSong website at last. All their music is now DRM-free, but sadly there's no sign of the Sorrow's Furnace freebie, or even Battle Pack One :/

(Incidentally - I never knew DirectSong was set up by Jeremy Soule and his brother o_O)

They moved all the Guild Wars freebies off the main site. I pulled this link from their support page. It just happened to be the only question on their support faq.

DRM Free! Cool, time to redownload the music files.

Not really DRM free ... to play the music and make guild wars play it in background you have to authorise your license and to do so you need directsong account and verified order for this free pak. Now, as far as I know you can no longer get this pak so good luck trying. The other things in that directory are just the same 'DRM FREE (NOT)'.

Yes - sorry, that's a bit confusing.

DirectSong seems to have abandoned its idea of WMP/game client integration and the DRM-free stuff that is on the main site is just a standard digital download of the various soundtracks. These will not play in-game, the only way to get that functionality is via the archived directory that skyoone posted above. These files are the old DRM-protected WMA files plus all the necessary rights management stuff.

Is directsong the only way you can get additional music playing? I thought I've seen a thread on editing your own MP3s awhile back.

That was, if I remember right, by altering DirectSong's Guildwars.ds file, replacing (for example) 03_Mhenlo's_Theme.wma[1200] with myawesomeemocrap.wma[1200]

Could someone that recently bought a battle pak one/collector's edition bonus music for guild wars from Directsong site tell me if he is able to integrate the music to guild wars with the files he get by default from purchase or does he have to go to /wma directory, download proper files and then use his newly purchased license to activate .wma DRM version? Or it's no longer possible to activate that music?

In case you wonder what directory/structure it should have, on SF mini-pak it's like that:

D:\Program Files\Guild Wars\DirectSong\Sorrow's Furnace Mini-Pak

where in DirectSong folder you should have files:

- ds_GuildWars.dll
- GuildWars.txt
- GuildWars.ds
- RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe

then use the executive to set up a correct path (will close automatically after 10 seconds)

then copy-paste music, license music and playlist files to Sorrow's Furnace Mini-Pak, will look like this inside:

- 01_The_Foundry.wma
- 02_Dark_Forge.wma
- 03_Grenth's_Footprint.wma
- 04_Sorrow's_Furnace.wma
- 05_The_Latch.wma
- 06_Sorrow's_Stand.wma
- 07_Stone_Summit.wma
- 08_Strenous_Trek.wma
- 99_License.wma
- Sorrow's Furnace Mini-Pak (playlist)

Now, my another concern is, if Anet plans to add perhaps new areas to the game, won't it conflict with already bought additional music? I mean, either DirectSong will have to update their config files or Anet will have to integrate DirectSong music to the game files enabling them for people who bought the products (then, they would have to tell DirectSong to release some kind of ID-keys for existing and future orders than you can add to your account?).

After talking to their support staff on and off for a few weeks, I finally was able to acquire the licensing rights for the SF pak. They recently did a server overhaul and it is now possible to acquire SF rights for free. However, I wonder if they will do anything about the battle pak 1 music, as that is currently unavailable (as far as I know) to anyone that did not previously purchase licensing rights.

Hate to bump an old thread like this, but I have a relevant question...

Where can I download the Sorrow's Furnace soundtrack pack? It no longer seems to be at http://www.directsong.com/wma/.

Someone have a copy they can hook a brother up with? I never downloaded it back in the day, and I'm playing through Sorrow's Furnace again with my wife who hasn't played through much of the game yet. That scenery brings back some fond memories and I'd like to experience it again with the music score in the background.

If not, don't sweat it. I can probably get one of my guild mates to hook me up with it. Thought I'd check here though and see if anyone knows of a download for it.
