So i stopped playing guild wars around the end of factions/begining of Nightfall.

ill spare the details, but i want to start playing again. I have almost all 20's but i feel like i want to start fresh.

With all the new things that have happened im a little overwhelmed and dont know where to start. I would like to do some high end pvp and pve stuff and im wondering if there is a place for any profession.

Id like to try a ritualist or something but im worried i will be barred from things like pvp and such. Anyway im a little out of the loop and dont know where to start and any help to get on track to get into some high end stuff would be great

If you want to do high end PvP, get in a guild with a good rep for that. That will matter more than what profession you pick. Put yourself out there. Don't be afraid of people calling you n00b or that u suxxorz, listen to the advice of higher ranks, and find what works best for your team. If you want to be a rit, concentrate on support, esp. Resto/Channeling.

PvE...get a bunch of PvE skills, farm Norn, Asuran, Ebon Vanguard, Deldrimore, Kurz/Lux and Sunspear, and copy/paste the PVX Wiki flavor of the day. Then slap on your Discordway heroes and roll baby!

Seriously, get a good guild for that, too. Either way, experienced players will matter more. A good group around you will make you a better player.

Whatever you do don't delete your characters.

I did that when i took a break and felt like coming back after nf was launched and i regret it to this day.

Every profession, despite which some people may say, has a place in PvP, just some more than others.

Don't delete characters as there is no benefit from it, and you may lose certain gifts.

High end PvE? Umm........Assassin.

Have one main PVE character of your favorite professon for roleplay and titles and don't make more. Quick pvp characters take away lots of grind if you want to play another.

For both PvE and PvP, get into a good Guild/Allience that has a PvX flavor, and go from there. Like mine and another guild holds the GvG while all the others old the PvE and Z Quests of the day.

PvE:
- Choose 1 profession to play all the games with that is your favorite. This will be the toon that gets all the titles, quests, missions and such on.
- Have a Monk or Assassin toon that is able to go into some decent farming areas to make money. This usually only requires a few runs here and there, shouldn't take too long to get too. If Monk happens to be the profession you choose for the above as the favorite, more power to you. Just note that Assassin is not the best PvE player in the game... their only real role in PvE is Perma Shadow Form for farming, running and tanking... those are all well and good, but for basic play, Sin is not the most fun to play...

PvP:
- Finding a decent guild to play with and learn from
- Make a Ranger and Trap Elite Z to unlock all the skills and equipment (6k per day, takes like 20-30 minutes) OR you can just spend the extra cash with the Skill Expander from the In-Game Store and this will do the work for you.
- Have 2 slots available for PvP only... make these slots avilable to re-roll into any profession... so make sure you dont use these for storage or any item bags on them. This will allow you to play whatever is needed for the team.
- However, you should work yourself to be solid in 1-2 roles/professions (like Warrior Frontline Axe and Ele Mind Blaster for example).

Yeah, I'd be overwhelmed, too if I was coming back to it. I would say that one of the best ways to get reacquainted with the game after a long break/absence would be to find a like-minded group to help ease you back in. Of course to read the forums and get info on what the current meta is like, but don't try to take in all the info all at once because that might overwhelm you further.

Good luck.
