Searched for a thread about this, and didn't find one, so if one exists slap the spirit shackles on my thread and I won't be offended

Perhaps it is my computer, but alot of people's Avatars are not showing up for me ... Loviatar and BigTru if you want two examples from the last thread i looked at. Still using the same computer, same settings, no updates, etc.

The space for them is there (IE you see the outline with the red X and filename) but no image.

Just wanted to throw this out there in case nobody else had mentioned it.

I noticed it too

The same thing happened when we were upgrading the forum to version 3.5. I remember everyone being so pissed that the avatars were gone. Some people even threatened to leave

I think they are preparing for the new server that is supposed to come in!

Hopefully by then, we can get animated avatars back.

My avy was gone, but only because the image was linked to an old domain, not to the new site the images are currently on. Now fixed.

It seems the problem is all (well, most of them) animated avatars have been killed off... i tried to fix mine only to get a message telling me I could not do so... its a shame, i spent an hour working on that thing too... oh well, new avatar I guess

The avatars affected weren't only animated. Most of SoF's avatars were lost, as well as other older members'. The current guess is that the database lost avatars uploaded within a time frame, which explains why the oldest members still have them, as well as the newer ones.

Every time an avatar is "uploaded" it actually is saved on the Guru database, and is fetched every time you browse one of the forum pages. As you can see from the red Xs, the fetching is still occurring, but there's nothing there to get.

Best advice would be to just upload new avatars for now. We'll see what we can do

So will the people who lost animated avatars be allowed to put in an animated avatar?
And with the new server coming along, can we expect animated avatars for all?

i converted all the avatars from the database to the filesystem, im looking at how to reconvert it since there were a lot and it failed a lot.

That would be nice...since my avatar is ME! I never change mine...it is who I am...just ask my kids

I cannot locate the source for it anymore. It is not on my hard drive for some reason...so I dearly hope you can turn it back on....

Is there a timeframe in which we might see our avatars back in action? Or are you all waiting until the new servers are in place?

I feel so naked....it is not a pretty site to see a naked Old Dood....
