That's entirely personal preference.
Try both and see which one you like best.

With a gamepad you will not be able to type.

IMO keyboard/mouse is better for GW

I used to use a wireless Xbox 360 controller and attach the mic for vent to the controller

I use a Logitech Rumblepad 2 with something like 26 keys mapped to it, as playing for more than 15 minutes or so with a regular keyboard really hurts my hands. Works great, no mis-typing the wrong key in the heat of combat (heh) and I can easily maneuver and fight at the same time.

As others have said you can't easily message without switching to keyboard, but I never found that to be too much of a problem.

But you should give both a try. Keyboard is the most flexible, but as my gamepad is cordless I can just lean back and relax while I play, not be hunched over the keyboard. Combat is for fighting, not talking.

I grew up playing most of my games using either a gamepad or arcade stick so with the games that work well, there's just no way to replace it. PC gaming on a kb always had something soul-less to it...

24 buttons on a gamepad?

I wonder if that would even be enough...

Buttons 1-8: Skills 1-8
Button 9: Next target
Button 10: Prev target
Button 11: Nearest Item
Button 12: "Action" (space)
Button 13: Call target (I guess not needed if you don't H/H and someone else on the team is your caller)

Probably have to get one of those gamepad-to-mouse programs though, or you'll have to use the mouse for any dialogs (I never grokked why they don't allow keyboard input for those things. An ineffective anti-botting measure?)

Well, all you young things wouldn't remember, but keyboards came first. In the beginning..., no controllers existed. So some of us can't break the keyboard addiction. After all, I can type without looking at the keys.

@OP - Kiva-chan is correct. Use the input device with which you are most comfortable. This is strictly a personal preference.
