Question about trophies

I see alot of people buying trophies. In general i dont really understand why but specificly im interested in moutain troll tusks. I enjoy farming trolls and get alot of these. I usally just merch them but i noticed someone offering 30g apiece. If this person was using them at the collecter that wouldnt turn a profit. I asked him why he was buying so many (lm talking stacks!) he just said it was for a friend. What could these people possibly want stacks of trophies for? thank you in advance for your help.

Are you talking selling the weapons to other players? Because if you buy tusks at 30g apiece and use 5 to craft a weapon. that weapon is only 125g at the merch. so that would be a loss of 25g. still a little confused. I wouldnt think other players would buy crafter weapons.

the other players might not necessarily be buying them for themselves but for their heroes to use

thats what do, ive got alot of characters, and i swap between heroes often, so i simply gather collector weapons to shove on my heroes so i dont have to worry about them using r3 swords and shields XD

that mainly happens in prophecies. the other games are pretty balanced or you only make 25g extra vs merchants.

hmm, might be because they are stacking up on trophies for The Traveler, so that the week he wants a trophy they have bought from other players they will have plenty.
Buying for 30g, selling for 1-2k each when traveler wants them = profit.

There are 277 trophies according to GWWiki. Not to mention the possibility of crafting material 36 options (remember bolts of linen?). Also, items like red iris flowers are not mentioned as trophies. Figuring 52 weeks a year that's a big outlay of $$$ banking on 1:7 (1:8) chance of that being the item he's looking for over the coarse of the year. I also feel there may be a chance for duplication of some central items like red iris flowers.
