The eBay "culture".

(First, excuse my english, I will try my best)
(Second, this is not a complain, flame nor crying thread, just a personal opinion)
Every rank I get in my PvP titles (Gladiator, Hero, ...) the more I hear (read) comments like: You are eBay; You eBayed your account.
That is plenty common, and is part of Guild Wars "culture", anyway, I am starting to hate it. I didn't hated it in the past when that comments was related to others, when someone emoted a hard earned Phoenix for example, but is very different when people say that things about you.
In some way, is Arenanet and eBay fault because they both allowed the selling of game accounts. So, the damage is done, anyway, I hope for GW2 that "culture" won't be present, I really hope that. I hope ArenaNet use that creative brain they have not only for making a good game, but also for stopping this type of "problems".

Arenanet doesn't allow the selling of game accounts to my knowledge, and they really cant babysit the internet 24/7 to make sure accounts aren't being sold. Even if they could, it wouldn't stop people from accusing others of buying accounts; you can't get rid of poor sportsmanship.

its just pvp trash talk, where they typical dis 'noob' doesnt apply as you have titles, so next low blow is saying you must have bought the account.
oh and anet dont let accounts be stolen, thats down to stupid users.

If you know you earned the title why do you give two shits about what others think?
crazybanshee
Let them think that. If you make a name for yourself in a certain pvp area then all the people who matter will know you are that good, and the scrubs who say bad things are irrelevant asshats anyway.
Bob Slydell
Common PvP sh*t talkers, just throw them into your ignore list, or mentally ignore them so they will get angry and spam you when you don't respond, then you can report them.

I agree with you, I have a r5 z title and I get "you're stupid for wasting all those z-keys on a stupid emote, what a waste of money" I find it pretty odd that people would attempt to tell me what to do with my plats, zkeys or game in gen. Secondly, GW is a game, I am wasteing FAKE money. Money that exist for the sole purpose of spending and buying things. Never mind that maxed weapons are all the same and all you're really getting when you buy that 100k + 30 ecto VS is a really cool looking max spear. It has no effect on your stats whatsoever. A maxed q9 spear would give you the same effect. Mini pets are totally pointless and useless and I see rare Asian minis being sold for insane prices everyday and they're even less helpful than fancy maxed weapons. Elite armor is pretty pointless too if you think about it. At the most it's a more detailed max armor, you can build a suit with the same stats for less then 20k as a alite suit that can cost you up to 150k. So I dont get this whole deal about the z emote or the glad emote. Money on GW is made to be spent not horded.

You are an ebayer if you have high rank
Either way, no one appreciates what other people do, so only do things for yourself. Don't grind out a title just to make people go :O, do it so you can feel proud that you don't suck at the game.

From my experience, no one really appreciated rank after they changed Tombs to Heroes Ascent (bad idea), and the ones who did TOTALLY lost that appreciation after they changed HA to 6v6 (very bad idea) and back again. This is pretty obvious in my own 'friend group' in game, as almost everyone I know reacted to Starcraft getting rank 15 with variants of "lol, he's such a scrub", or a comment about the multiple people who played the account.

Blame your fellow gamers for selling and buying accounts/money from eBay and other sites.

I call it the bum on the corner mentality, because its like a bum standing on the street corner watching the traffic and laughing at how stupid people are for driving a expensive car while he drives nothing.
Sir Baddock
If people are indeed buying and selling accounts INGAME they are suspended when someone reports them, I have seen firsthand well over 50 lifetime suspensions given to people selling accounts. eBay on the other hand is somewhat difficult to enforce rules on because of a number of reasons. Imagine if someone made a Fake eBay auction that advertised for instance your (NeHoMaR) account.
