Looking to get into pve....

I've owned the game since release, I still haven't brought eotn because it was mostly a pve expansion. So recently, I decided I wanted to give pve in gw another shot. But I ran into a problem, one I've always had with pve. I can't find motivation to keep going after I finish a campaign. In WoW for instance my motivation to keep building my character is to get better gear. In gw there is no such thing. So I feel that what stops me from enjoying pve is because I don't know how to enjoy it.

For the people out there that like pve and play a lot, what keeps you guys to put lots of time into your character/s?

I hate titles & Grind so that never appealed to me.

What kept me going in Guild Wars was learning to play with a different character class, never did the "Main Character & Alt Character" thing. After that I did: armor, equipment, skills, heroes, and I am currently working on getting runes & insignia for all my heroes (I am constantly broke now). After I have completed runes & insignia I will go to equipment.

Eventually I will realize that equipping 260 heroes (26 per character) when you can only take 3 at a time was a big waste of gold, until then it gives me something to do until I find a new game to play.

join an active guild and do gvg. you can't find motivation to do pve because there is none and it sucks. gvg sucks too (at least compared to other games' pvp formats such as runescape's competitive being-a-12-year-old-whose-parents-didn't-let-him-use-the-credit-card-to-play-WoW arena) but if you want to play guild wars it's the best way to do so.

Instead of getting better gears as you would in WoW, a large number of people in GW are obsessed about getting different skins of armor and weapons to make their characters pretty. That'd take awhile, obviously, seeing some of the high-end weapons and mini-pets are notoriously expensive.

Personally I like acheiving meaningful stuff like vanquishing, dungeons, and missions. Grinding sucks. Playing with different characters and different playstyles is fun aswell.

The storyline of course, I'm surprised that no one mentioned it. The first thing, before anything else, you should enjoy the basic lore. If that's gone then everything else would look dimmer.

After that there's the aspect of equipping your character with nicer looking armor and weapons. For me, nice armor is the main if not the only reason for creating a PvE char over a PvP one, after I've gone through the storyline with my main character already.

Joining a nice, helpful and chatty guild is a key to enjoy Guild Wars as a whole, not just PvE. It will enhance your experience. Joining a guild is not like marriage, if you feel that you don't fit in then you're free to look for another, more suiting, guild.

I don't like farming, never did. Even though, I do enjoy SCs (Speed Clears). Especially when you have a SC hardcore team in your guild. Beyond making money, it's fun to complete an elite area. Even more so if you, and you should, use vent. You can talk and laugh on unrelated topic while you're "farming".

P.S - EoTN is not a mainly PvE expansion. It has so many important skills for PvP; Patient Spirit, Body Blow, Energy Blast and many many others.

Nonrepetitive titles, as mentioned above, are a great way to get into PvE! These would include:

Skill Hunter (4 Titles)
Master of the North
Vanquisher (4 Titles)
Protector/Guardian (7 Titles)
Cartographer (4 Titles)

That's 20 Titles, and just the nonrepetitive ones!

Joining a guild is a great way to do these, as well as make some of the grinds go by a lot easier. I've stuck with my guild for a long while, and hardly ever get bored of GW anymore, because there's always someone wanting to do something new and exciting.

As for collecting armors as you did in WoW, think of some of the more prestigious armors in GW as your 'better' sets. They wont necessarily make you Godly via stats, but they'll be prestigious nonetheless.

I hope putting you in these frames of mind will help your PvE experience. Quite frankly, I cant stand PvP, so this would be my forte if ever there was one.

I will take the calm soothing atmosphere of pve over the hectic and, well bitchy, atmosphere of pvp any day. I'm one of those people that dont mind grinding for titles, especially when I finally finish a title and feel great about completing it. I also mostly solo or h/h in pve, allowing me to go at my own pace and be much more relaxed. Like others have mentioned, there really isnt anything wrong with wanting nice armor and weapons, they are fun to get (atleast to me).

I really appreciate everyones effort to tell me what motivates them to play pve. Like I said in a few posts above, I'm going to really give pve a shot because it really does seem like fun. So here is my next question. How do you go about finding a good guild?

I know for one its not like the standard mmorpg, were you group with players for a while and ask to join their guild. Or that this guild is looking for a particular class. I notice that there are a lot of guild recruitment spam in trade outposts, but I'm always hesitant to just jump in.

I had a good guild when I first started to play back in 05, but they all left the game. I then made my own just so I can go AB when I want and never joined another active guild again. I'm sure like some have mentioned, it would enchant the pve experience greatly.

Look in the guild forums on Guru. Stuff like number of members, what they do (HM, titles, whatever) are specified so it's not just a case of jumping in and hoping that they'll be what you're looking for. Also, they often have websites so you can look through there to get an even better idea as to what the guild is about.
