Hi.
Recently my HDD has started squeaking, as if the disk was catching the bottom and scraping every so often. As I leave my PC on overnight, this gets rather annoying somtimes.
The only other time this has happened is in my old pc, and the only two common variables are A: My 250GB Seagate. B: Some fan I've mounted on the back.
I've ran a disk check on the Seagate and nothing came up, so i'm guessing it's not that bad, and formatting isn't really a permanent solution.
So yeah, will I have to just buy a new drive? Thanks.
Hard Drive Squeaking

If you are sure that this is coming from your HDD, then you had best back up your data to another HDD, whether that be an internal or external one. Usually such noises from a HDD mean it will die on you sooner rather than later.
*one very simple thing to try is to open your case up and make sure all of the scres holding the HDD in are tight and that it fits snugly. If you have a tool-less setup than I hgihly suggest you ditch those little slides and get some good old fashioned screws - that's not necessarily the cause, but it would only take 3 minutes to try it and that beats $70 or so for a new HDD. *

Well I took my side panel off and felt the drives, as soon as i did it stopped. Which was a pain.
I'm using a screwed setup, and I already checked them, as i thought it might just be rocking in the bay, they were fine. Don't think it's squeaked since, although i'll give it time.
Thing is my 500GB is almost full, thus the reason my Games and such are on the other drive. I guess it's no big loss if the drive goes, I can re-download what I need. I'll post up again if the squeaking continues.

still do a backup even if it stopped the next time it might quit altogether. id think about getting a new drive or at least one to use til you can get a new one

Yeah it's still doing it, looks like a new one then. I'll probably just get a 1TB Drive and use it for storage. Thanks.
