Question about some rare skins
sonofthort
I've been interested in obtaining a couple of axes for a while, but I am beginning to wonder if "good" versions of them even exist. I've posted a WTB thread in the buying forum, but nobody has replied, and I have tried to farm for them, and all I ever get our non max white versions, sometimes blue versions. My question is does anybody know anything about these skins, has anybody ever seen good versions, or have any idea how rare they are, or know the best way to farm for them?

If you are farming for them, I'd suggest farming HM as you have a better chance of getting a max damage gold one. The first one is a Canthan skin, so you will have to be lucky with things like requirement, damage mod, and haft/grip. The second one is found in a lot of places, mostly in Tyria. If you look through the wikia it tells you several monsters that can drop them.

I think the Crude Axe only drops around Shing Jea and Kaineng Center and must be distinguished from the Elonian axe of the same name. I don't think I've ever seen an inscribable one from UW/FoW chests or the Zchest.
As for the Sickle, you'll never find a gold, max, non-inscribable one in Tyria but EotN territories, particularly Charr and Norn areas, offer inscribable Sickles. They should also be distinguished from the Canthan, traditional, hooked Sickle.

I have read that stuff, but still, do good versions even exists? Have you ever seen a good one? I would think that they have to be some of the rarest skins in the game. I farm minotaurs sometimes because they are fun, and sometimes they drop sickles, but I've never seen one higher than blue, and the same goes for the crude axe.

Rule of thumb in the ruined economy of GW: If it's not 100k+xxxectos, you can't buy it or find it.
The cheapest moddable axe you could find in kamadan will be a tormented, so get an armbrace or something. You'll be looking for days.

I have an inscribable Sickle on one of my characters, it dropped in GW:EN. Max damage gold skins CAN drop for them, but only in HM for the areas they drop. I have had max damage Sickles drop for me many times that were purple or gold and have moderate damage mods. But as noted, not many people will pay more than 5k (if that much) for one, so people merch the ones they get.
If you find a monster that drops the weapon you want, make sure you farm it in HM to get better chances of a max damage version. Sickle will be easier to find as it can drop as an inscribable, while the Crude Axe I don't think has an inscribable version available.

Crude Axes are not so common but do drop regually in Mr Chos Estate there is a farming build for it. But i can no longer find it or just do HM farming on Shea Jing Island Naga drop them only ever found a few purples thought.

Inscribable Tyrian sickles drop all over the place in EotN.
Canthan crude axes are hard to come by. For inscribable, you're looking at ZChest & FoW/UW endchests. For a decent inherent mod, lots of farming in Cantha.

Perfect Canthan crude axe. Yea they exist.

Both of the 2 axe skins drop in gold quite frequently in the Minister Cho's Estate mission HM. There are a variety of builds that can be used to farm in there, as you're facing primarily melee. A 55 necro with SS and necrotic transversal works wonders for example.

lol what? are you being serious?

Cool thanks for all the posts. I know this isn't the trading forum but does anybody have a nice crude axe for sale?
DarkFlame
What he means is that most folks don't bother to sell them and/or vendor them when they do come across them. Its not worth the effort to stand around and try to sell items for, essentially, pocket change.
@Op Again, not rare, just not worth the effort of storing them and looking for a buyer. Just have to keep trying if you want one.

As aforementioned, try Minister Cho's HM. I'd just look for a collector first then add the grip and whatnot.

Like many of the above posters, I agree that these are possible. I've noticed max, inscribable Tyrian-skin sickles for sale now and then over the past year or so. Sorry, but I don't remember who was selling them. I do remember the price was well under 50k. Tyrian Sickles used to only drop from lower level areas. They were incredibly hard to find in max before HM came out. Before HM, I seem to recall them being worth many ecto if you had one that was even close to max with a halfway decent mod.
The Canthan Crude Axes drop on Shing Jea AFAIK. So again, the introduction of HM made it a lot easier to find max versions.
I wanted to point a couple things out to the OP.
If you like the skin of the Tyrian sickle and are having trouble finding one: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Victo%27s_Battle_Axe
If you get someone selling a Crude Axe, make sure it's the skin you want. There's a Crude Axe NF skin that doesn't look anything at all like the Canthan Crude Axe. You should be able to tell by the icon in trade which skin it is.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Crude_Axe
Finally, these Charr Axes from EotN have always reminded me of the Canthan Crude Axe skin.

If you like the stats, Victos axe (tyrian sickle) is pretty cheap and easy to find a seller. Although it doesn't have the pretty gold letters.

It's pretty easy to find almost any gold item if you shop in Kamedan or Lion's Arch. Sometimes it'll take a week to find something, but in general you can find pretty much any random skin even if it's rare.
Often people will try to charge you exhorbitant prices for something they say is rare, if someone's asking in excess of 20k for something random you can probably find a cheaper seller. For example I was looking for an old prophecies gold Longsword, some people tried to charge me 40k and up but eventually I got it high req for 2.5k.
^ as was suggested Victo's axe is a commonly available max green in the better of those two skins. Don't pay more than 5k.

Point being if they have something you want, but are charging a massive price, chances are they are just trying to get as much out of you as possible, and more than likely if you don't just reject the offer right off and play it smart you can get it for much cheaper. This is cause the seller knows they won't be bale to find another buyer anytime soon and just want cash. With smart bargaining you can get people to drop their price from 80k to 10k (I've done this many, many times)

Another good way to find the skins you want if you're trying to buy a skin that isn't valuable enough to sell just for the skin is to let your guild and alliance mates know you're looking for one and have them keep an eye out in case they come across one.
