Oldest guilds?
ElexAio
The guild in which I am an officer- Blade and Rose [BaR] was founded on May 10th, 2005. I'd say thats pretty old as still active guilds today go. But nowhere near the oldest.
We're still pretty active- we've had 52 of our 78 members on within the last week.

Natural Born Killaz came into being as a Delta Force 2 squad back in January, 2000. Ahh, the good old days of Tubetti World and Cold Pizza!
My guild registered in GW during the beta weekend in Feb of 2005. We've never been very big in GW, but have maintained a steady 10 or so fairly active members.
Several members of ~NBK~ switched over to that MMORPG that shall not be named and set up shop there.
P.S. To all active guilds over 3 years old: Congradulations! It takes a lot of work to keep a guild alive for that long, so kudos to you! /salute!

As you can see above, [PhD]'s relationship with [Dark] has a long history. My father took this screen shot back in the 80's, when I was 2 years old. I am still trying to master his pro-ness. Being in PhD has helped me immensely in reaching the peak of ultimate pro-ness(good thx to the capt.)

Mine The Green Guild [tree] founded by another person passed on to me 2/19/05.I can show you a screenshot to.
We are talking about only Guild Wars guilds when you formed your guild in GW not any other games. That would mean THE BBF would be older than your but not by GW time.

ZoS IS the oldest guild.
my guild leader frostraven confirmed this many times. there are some guilds that are near our creation date, but we are the oldest, created in the alpha testing of guildwars. ( 6 years ago or something, 20th october 2003) ~Padre (ZoS member) |
Is there any actual thing on the guild saying the leader joined on that date?
fenix
There isn't. As I mentioned before, ZoS shouldn't count as the oldest guild.
As it was made by developers, they were able to make the game before anyone else was able to. The guild itself doesn't actually have the creation date as being in 2003, because it was remade during the open beta, but it seems ZoS members like to hang on to the fact that their guild existed in Alpha.
The sad thing, is that there are probably a couple of guilds that existed briefly in 2002, maybe earlier, when they were developing the guild system.

it's actually a real screenshot, there was a bug some time ago that screwed up the dates. Everyone had that. He was just kidding.

Charter Vanguard [CV] the guild, which had grown significantly since its first ad, is first created in-game with Astral Deathseer as its leader. About this time, the guild also finds a new home in official fansite Guild Wars Ogaming where its members begin to host several forum role-plays that they might participate in in-between alpha and beta tryouts.

Until someone pointed out, I forgot that the best way to look at it was the guild founder's join date!
The Council of Iris [Iris], formed in Ragnarok online originally, but founded in Guild Wars on May 15, 2005.
Currently, two active members.

The Omega Circle [OC] was founded in March 2004, when I joined the Alpha. One by one I was allowed to invite more of our members into Alpha.
Our Highpoint was reaching the Top10 during the E34E-event, when we were able to dominate the less prepared first timers. Until we got owned pretty hard by more worthy guilds like The Fianna.
Alas, for the past few years it's only been me who's left around.

@ Sjeng:
Would just like to point out that the "bug" to which you refer was actually homage paid to [PhD] by Anet on the anniverssary of its inception and, therewith, the birth of Pro. At the conclusion of this reverent celebration this touch of [PhD] was rescinded and all other guilds were left to their own, shorter and inferior, histories.

Isn't LLL - Low Land Lions (??) - also one of the oldest player guilds, from beta days back in January 2005? I think they are Dutch or German, not too sure.
Gaile still attended their 3 year anniversary last year in their Guild Hall iirc.

My guild Lievs Death Squad [LDS] was created on the 6th May '05. Only a few are still in it from back then though i'm sure a few more have since come back, but theres still a considerable number from the 06-07 era.

I'm a founder with some rl friends of Knights of the Keyboard Order [KkO] guild.
Founded on the 4th july 2005, we currently still have about 70 people in guild and around 30-35 daily actives, since we're leading an alliance of like-minded players we have quite a good little community together, with [Loz], [UKO], [VAMP], ... guilds
However our alliance credo is more in the lines of Having fun together whatever we do, and doing it our way! and mostly play PVE.

[PhD] seems, in yet another way, to be uniquely pro.
With no remotely interesting guild histories to rival that of Teh Academy, is further discussion needed?
@ Mod: Close?

I concur, Teh Academy is unrivaled by any guilds in existence. Created sometime in the Stone Age before GW alpha by the fathers of the devs, we have risen to the summit of l33tness which no other guild has yet even remotely approached.

Brothers Disgruntled started in Dec. 1998. At the time I joined it was primarily a Team Fortress Classic clan. Although some BD members played the beta of Guild wars, the BD GW Guild wasn't formed until April 2005. BD GW was very active for the first year or two, but then many of the members started to play WoW (BD on Gorefiend). Nowadays there's just 3 active GW players - and that will probably become even less since something is bound to come along before GW2.

Jason has spoken the unspeakable truth. I created Teh Academy after siring all of the game's developers with a harem of interns from atari and collecovision. The date of creation (2/26/84) is the birthday of my youngest child, Gaile. Although she never became a dev like her older siblings, I'm proud of her. The Hall of Heroes was our original guild hall and my kids immortalized me in the form of the Ghostly Hero. I don't have the beard anymore.

Zos is the oldest because of the Alpha testing, But they can not really be included in this because of the fact that it was made before anyone else had the chance to make a guild. As for some other old guilds Pirate Wenches {Yarr} was made the first day in beta that a guild could be made. Unfortunatly there is only a second acc keeping the guild up as everyone has left the guild or stopped playing. Pro Hiberna {Ftw} is also one of the oldest guilds in the game made about 2 hours after Pirate Wenches.
