Changing Campaigns

Ok, I see some builds that have classes from two different campaigns in them. How do you do this? It seems to me in Prophecies I have to pick a secondary profession before I can move out of the first city (starting area). I am sure this has been asked, and I honestly searched for the answer but didn't find anything that was helpful. Thanks in advance.

Later in the storyline of every campaign, you get the option/ability to change your secondary profession. After that point, you can switch your secondary profession to whatever you like.

If you want to just take my word for it and not risk seeing spoilers, stop reading this now.

Here's a link explaining how to get PvE characters started in one campaign to the other campaigns:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Campaign_travel
(For future reference, that's a link off the main page of wiki.)

Here's a quote from wiki about secondary professions from this page: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Profession All of the requirements they mention are things that happen during the storylines.
Quote:
Role-playing characters cannot change freely between secondary professions until they have Ascended (Prophecies), become Weh no Su (Factions) or completed the quest Hunted! (Nightfall). Doing the Hunted! quest only qualifies native Elonians. Ascended Prophecies characters can take quests to unlock each secondary profession. Characters from other campaigns can only unlock secondary professions at a Profession Changer for a fee of 500 Gold. Once a secondary profession has been unlocked, that character can freely switch between all the unlocked secondary professions via the Skills and Attributes Panel in any town or outpost, or by talking to a profession changer again. Heroes and PvP characters can choose to switch to any secondary profession from any campaign linked to the player's account*.
Hope it helps,

You can change your secondary profession after you become ascended. http://www.wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ascended. You also have to own the other campaigns in order to have access to that class. Nightfall (Paragon,Dervish) and Factions (Assassin, Ritualist). So in Pre-Ascalon you can only choose a secondary from the other 5 classes. If you do not own the other campaigns you cant use a warrior/Dervish combo and so on. Hope this helps.

Very helpful, so I can pick whatever as a second profession and then once I "ascend" I can move from campaign to campaign and then pick up a different secondary profession from that campaign. Wow, this game is fun, but lots to learn. Henchmen, Hero's, (good, great, bad, useless, outdated...) builds, changing campaigns and more acronyms then a military handbook. I am glad the community is so willing to help! Thanks again.

You don't actually have to go to the campaign to unlock a non-core secondary profession. There is a Profession Changer in the Great Temple of Balthazar.

So, your Prophecies character can get the core secondary professions for free from the quests and visit the GT to unlock the four remaining professions for 500g each. (Assuming, of course, that you own those campaigns.)

That allows you to get those professions as soon as you Ascend. Otherwise, you'd have to complete a couple of missions and some primary quests in Cantha to reach the Profession Changer there. In Elona you'd have to do the same, plus a side quest to get the Profession Changer to appear in the Command Post.
