What will the next major update be about?
Test Me
Don't know if this has been asked already, but I haven't seen any info about it.
When they decided to work on bigger updates once a quarter (that's what I remember they've said) they did mention what the first one will be about. I haven't heard anything about the next one though I assume there will be another bigger update in a couple of months... or?

there was something somewhere about lindsy saying this last one was pve love and pvp would get its share of love or something.
but that could mean anything and maybe not even true lol

Yeh but then Regina basically said that's a load of crap last week in the QQ thread about how appalling the 'update' was. They'l probably make HB use set builds like in costume brawl and say 'hey, we listened to teh community lol', despite it being asked for since it came out, oh yeh and maybe buff a few random skills but obviously not touch rits
So essentially just like the previous content update, old ideas dressed up as new content with most of which making us pay real money for.

The above statement is absolutely correct.. Besides the closer we get to it the more exciting it would seem to be... But lkets hope we wont be let down..Last Major update was a BLAST

This is A-net being more open about what they are working on...how's it working for you?

As stated in th OTHER thread.. they are more open about SKILL balances and the DEV UPDATES thats what they meant..regarding big updates that came later on and do not fall under this so called Promise of being more open.. -_-

No but seriously Skill updates, zaishen something and a PvP boost.

I did not exactly understand how the last upgrade was about PvE. It revives two PvE outpost each day by socially connecting the Pugs and give them direction. The Zaishen Menagerie does little if you are not a Ranger and the Hall of Monuments is only for players of EotN. How this change to the Hall impacts the transfer of stuff to GW2 is unknown and for that reason people will be rather uncertain what to think of it.
The update notes read, "major content additions", but I can see where people are looking around bewildered for that content. Level every Pet to 20? Replay HM with Pugs? Are those really additions of content in a way the BMP was? All the Z-Missions and the Nicholas stuff were very good ways to get more out of the existing content, giving existing stuff more replay value. But not everybody will think of this as enough when they were hyped before. So forum flame is to be expected.
A new type of PvP is certainly always an option, stray away from the highly organized modes that require insane amounts of training and knowledge. Don't try to go over the top and be even more complicated the way Hero Battles did. There is still a gap left to be closed between PvE and PvE, so making a new "more hardcore" PvP mode might not be the best of options.
There is no "Tag" PvP, like there has been in most shooters since Quakeworld. A big all gloves off, free for all Deathmatch would also be something new. If you get a good "Kill to Death" ratio, your build will be automatically pulled by the Highscore NPC, for others to copy. That way, newbies get some fair chance and the whole system will be in constant flux as if it was a big evolutionary computer.
The whole "sealed deck" PvP idea is also floating around long enough now for it to finally enter a stage where it might be put into the game serverside. But that is again a pretty tough thing to pull off, as the main drag of this more is sitting down and creating a build from limited resources. If you are not into this sort of thing, you will stay the hell away. Especially the Festival PvP modes, get their main draw from simply entering, not having to worry and having fun by not being so teeth grindingly hard.
I'd say it's one of the three game modes and some patching to the reward structure of the rest again. Iron out exploits, bad NPC behavior, tweak the maps a bit, stuff like that.

They had been saying they wanted to do more "PVP Love"
However, I don't think their projects are far enough in to officially announce. So they're careful about whatever they say is the update.
As for the PvE side, anet had said they wanted to make Joy's Refrigerator, a forest in the game full of rainbows and cute, furry bunnys

Seeing as how the previous update's purpose was to encourage players to play more PvE, I'm guessing the PvP update will be about encouraging players to get into PvP.
How? Not with new maps (they didn't actually make anything new for the PvE content either) but probably with new PvP modes. I think a true 1v1 mode would be a cool gimmick to attract folks to PvP. Either with builds we currently use and make up ourselves or with pre-set builds and skills like in the dragon arena or the costume brawl.

I do hope they buff Rits a bit for the next major update. I don't see it happening today, but maybe increase their usefulness in PvE somehow?

...Please be a design weapon contest.
But hero battles will probably get a revamp, and HA might get some weird changes, but I doubt there will be a new area to fight because they'd probably need to make a new zone (which they dont really have the people for) and the PvP community doesn't want to get split apart even more.

Funny because I know I've heard that phrase "PvP Love" used multiple times before and dating back into 2008. Whoever picked up that quote from whoever's pos wiki talk page, its been recycled.
PvP Love is when they decide to update 5 skills, or buff 20+ elites and bork the game for the next year.

/agree that the 100 v 100 would be bad... i can see smoke coming out of people computers trying to keep up with all the instances of 200 players at one time... if you thought walking through spam-a-don was bad... you would cry if that pvp would happen...
The last update with the Z Quests ultimately took already in game stuff, and applied a new way to make players to play those areas again, but with a new reward of Z Coins instead of XP since obviously, players who have been playing the game for the past 4 years already have over 5 million xp on several toons... so why would they want more? I am just speaking the truth, and it was a great idea on ANET's part to make that update to continue interest, and it is working. Not knowning what the new quests of the day is a great idea to keep people playing and farming with already in-game stuff. Although, I am dieing for a FoW/UW version of Merlandru's World...
pvp love will probably be targeting two areas... HB revamp and GvG.
HB as been tossed around for a long time. Although I think it is a great idea and a nice way to play and all, but its not really truely 1v1 and its such a great thing to be able to macro your heros to RoJ spike whenever you need them too (QQ there). But does it need a revamp? Probably yes.
As for GvG, its making a slow comeback. Although in meetings online with several groups ranging from the noobie GvG'ers to the top 200's... it seems that the current system is flawed. Those coming into GvG (which has been dubbed the only changing environment left in Guild Wars), are feeling they are entering this field of combat to late... and they also feel that the "random" guild battles against 400+ guilds tend to deter them greatly from playing/learning.
So one of two things needs to happen. One is that the community of the tops 400's need to open their doors so that fresh blood can enter. This will a great teaching tool for newer players comming in and be able to go out and teach others how to play and build better and more teams. (Not likely to happen, but one can always hope).
And/or Two, ANET needs to split the higher ranks from the lower ranks much like the attempts made in the [rawr] tourny a while back. This will promote a more competitive match up and more interest into that field. The issue here is that a lot of management will be invoveled with the cut line of top tier to bottom tier (and middle tier if there is one). So paramitters will need to be set/managed for teams higher then 1,000 being a top tier and those at 1,001 and below. That 1,001 to 1,200 gray area would have to be worked out... or, the teams will just have to win in order to get into those higher ranks. For those that follow international Soccer, this is kinda like relegation. This is when I Grade A level team, underpreforms in the season, and then is dropped to a Grade B league the next season and the top teams from the Grade B league, move to the Grade A league to replace them.

There is a definite VOID on the lower end of the ladder r500-r1000. Right now if you look at the GW Ladder page you will see Guilds that are below rating 1000 are listed in the top1000 of guilds, that show a huge decline in player base. There are about 180 Guilds that don't even have +rating over 1000!!!
There once was a time when you needed about 1035+ rating to even be listed on the ladder to make r1000, that isn't the case today. We are pretty much missing about 500+ guilds that used to play a year and a few months ago. Regarding those estimated 500 guilds missing thats easily over 4000 players not partaking in GvG anymore, GL getting them back. Any new Guilds trying to form or gain experience are being paired with anyone the system can find at the moment, and you can clearly see there aren't a whole lot of new guilds or lower experienced ones around.
The whole middle/lower tiered players have vanished.

Probably a pet stylist, a new Title Title system (you get a special title for completing a title on multiple characters) and an upgraded Zaishen Chest that wipes your HDD as one of the random drops to make it more exciting. Knowing Anet these are all incredible ideas.
