Simplest Solution: Party Search Filter

Would be useful. As others have said, it takes forever to scroll through oodles of stuff in party search.
And who knows...maybe it would be an incentive for people to spell properly. lol.

Also, just to get this off my chest, I for one can't believe the idiocy of some people while selling when they purposefully call them Tombs, Tombs are not books they are somewhat houses for dead people, they're not a tradable item in guild wars you can't even fit a tomb in your pocket if you tried unless it's for a mouse or something..
So instead of showing the amount of ignorance or just how stupid you are actually spell what you're selling correctly then nobody in this thread would be worrying about the morons of guild wars if this idea was ever implemented, Tombs is one thing but spelling Ectos with a K (Ektos - Wtf?) What is the point..really?

If you want to sell, learn to spell (you just have to copy letter for letter of the name of the item you have)

Although i liked my market stand idear better (*rolleyes* ), i can see it would need way more work then a search option, which for now would make life easier for alot of people, including myself..

True, I would love more advanced options but we know they ain't gonna happen
That's why I suggested the most simple idea I could think of, because it would be better than nothing at all.

Well it could happen in GW2 (fingers crossed on a good trading system there) ...
and your idear was indeed very simple and for the moment (understanding time and resources are limited) a good idear, since it also sounds doable

Make it a drop down menu which every trader has to enter. To get into the list.

The problem with such a list is if you're selling several items at same time (ie. WTS tomes, gold unid, unded. minipets)
By typing in what you're searching for, it's easier to find even for thoose with multiple items on same line.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened without us pointing it out.

a simple filter/string/pattern matcher would be fine and could only impact end client UI in a minimal implementation.
but that would indeed be very usefull

I wanted to post a new thread and then I came across this one.
So, it's been 2 years since this was proposed and I feel the need for this is as great as ever. A very simple solution which would make trade actually usable.
Here's my take on it:
Simple modifications to party window to make trade usable
This is not a proposal for an auction house. It takes the existing system (party window and trade channel) and does some very simple modifications, which I believe would improve quality of life by completely eliminating trade channel spam AND the need to rely on it to get anything done.
1) Currently, once the ad has been taken into the party window, it is truncated. Make it so the full text appears in a tooltip when you hover with the mouse over that entry.
Explanation: due to the text cut, the ad as it appears in the party window is unusable in most cases. If you missed the original ad in the trade chat, the only thing you can do is wait for the owner to spam it again, or go ahead and ask them anyway (and risk an angry reply). This feature would make the ads in the party window actually usable.
2) Quick search field in the party window. Type "wtb mini fung", press "Filter" and only ads containing those words (case insensitive, works on any part of the ad text) will remain displayed.
Explanation: in high-volume trading markets such as Kamadan, finding a particular item is extremely hard because trade parteners are required to scan the trade chat visually. Which flows by at a gruesome rate. This feature would completely eliminate the need to scan the trade chat. Naturally, this search needs to work with the full ad text, not the truncated version.
3) [optional] Once the need to scan the chat is gone, there might as well be a feature that prevents spamming it. Make it so more than N messages per T time period will cause the player to be unable to use the trade chat for a certain time. Attempting to say something in trade during the mute period will reset (or extend) the mute. Tell the player when this happens so they know what's going on (ie. "you have been muted for X minutes for spamming the channel", "you have been unmuted", "your mute has been extended for another X minutes").
Explanation: even though the party quicksearch would make it useless to spam the trade channel, I'm willing to bet there would be people still doing it. This will clean up the chat nicely, so people will use it only to update their ad.
Alternative: simply mute the trade channel yourself. There's no need to follow it anymore if you have party window search.

Gosh, my old thread has been necromanced!
But still I think it's still needed, I originally made this suggestion as simple as humanly possible, in hopes that maybe a simple idea could make it true.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. If it's simple it will be easy for them to do it. Well, we'll see, maybe things have changed in the meantime and it will catch the attention of the Live Team. Or maybe they'll tell us "it can't be done", either way, it would be something.

This is in general a really simple idea I'm surprised wasn't implemented already. Really helps with trading, and if nothing else it cuts down on the clutter in any trading hub such as Kamadan.

Ideally the filter would simply parse regular expressions. In fact you could just make an external program to do this without anything done by Anet

I still think they should implement a market mode similar to perfect world though.
