Set monk hench on avoid.
upier
Alesia's wanding won't kill foes. What it will do is kill her when she runs in and grabs aggro after I call the target.
The end.
But seriously, are these guys set on aggressive? Because Devona, who I WANT to show the behaviour Alesia is showing, isn't as mental. And it doesn't make sense that the monks are always the first one in and then they spend the rest of the fight just saving their own asses.
So if there is an avoid combat option when it comes to hench - I would love to see it turned on for monk hench.

Some of us had to do Hell's Precipice with those jokers.
Saph
Yep, monk henchies love to run into a mob, balls to wall and wand. I swear one of their battle quotes should be 'I'm a war! Oh wait....'
Catchphrase
Remind me why they bother having prots when they barely use it. I remember before the introduction of Heroes, the henchman did a far better job in ressing than healing.
Abedeus
I think that's because every hench is set on "Aggressive". Avoid in my opinion causes too much PAAANIC AAATTAAAACKs.

look on the bright side, at least you wont have to worry about having enough corpses for your sabway MM.

And No Wiki!
Oh the joy of actually needing to ASK AROUND!
Nobody will ever experience it in any game ever again, thanks to the awesome dumb down known as wiki.

I find that she stays back, for the most part, and only runs in to use Healing Touch and Restore Life... Unfortunately, once she does so the first time, she doesn't back off for the rest of that combat.
Mordiego
I think caster henchies should be set on Guard instead of Avoid, so that can respond to attacks instead of either running away from allies that need support (due to being pursued by enemies) or mindlessly aggro every mob they spot in 100 yards .
Halimahdance
Alesia. ~~Shudder~~ I practically wept with joy when I didn't have to choose her anymore.

Henchie Monk with touch skills? FAIL.
Lux Aeterna
This is why you set your monk hero to avoid combat with an energy efficient hybrid build.
Ariena Najea
upier has a good point, the only reason to have a Hero/Hench Healer on anything but Avoid should be for Guard, which is only useful while you have energy management such as Power Drain.
The argument "just bring heroes" is pointless, since 1 player cannot bring more than three heroes, and is therefore forced to rely on henchmen to fill remaining slots as desired, assuming the player chooses not to play with another human player.

Alesia, fortunately I had a W/Mo when I originally did Prophecies with nothing but the henchies. Pugs on the last three missions, but I went back and did those solo with the hench too.
I carried a nice heal and kept it cast on Alesia. Thus she had more mana go heal the other henchies. Then, I got a bow and opened combat with it and stayed out until the hench had taken the brunt of the fire. So, Alesia did not have to heal me and further burden her mana. Then I went in to knock 'em down.
I went R/Mo with my Ranger for the same reason. The hench are not all that bad, thing is though, they work as a group and if you take heavy damage and suck up Alesia's mana, down they go.
Ele/Mo and Monk/Me of course worked very well too.

...Or the time I was standing in ascalon asking how far away the dessert would be. I had heard people talking about this dessert area where you could change your secondary profession, and I really wanted to see it.
lol, could go on for ages. Those were the good days !
ontopic: does anyone still use henches for anything but to fill in the open spots? Anyways I agree with you, but I don't think we will see this happening due to anet working on gw2 or something..

Ah yes, Alesia the...warrior??? Lets not leave Menlo out in the cold.
When I first started playing, A hydra in the Ring of Fire had dropped a meteor shower. I flagged the group out of the aoe and Menlo not only ignored the flag but ran a few steps, cast Orison of Healing and wound up standing in lava...burning, on his butt, and soon died. Kinda wondered if he had been coded with a death wish.

Basically, other options are worse so I go with the lesser evil. I am able to help out with the shitty healing she provides. What I am not able to negate is taking "damage dealing" hench who then not do damage, because they are too busy running around because the AoE from Ignite Arrows completely messed them up ...

Doesn't Alesia's endgame quote involve her complaining about how you would so have taken her if she had been a warrior?
I remember making my pet monk so I wouldn't have to end up inviting her into the party.

(pssst...I think you meant 'desert')
Anyway, giving henchmen healers touch skills is just a bad, bad idea in general. Alesia wouldn't spend so much time attempting to tank if they didn't have touch heals...
Banane-O-Man
She's suicidle, send her to the hero suicide hotline.
Marty Silverblade
Since we can set this manually for heroes, isn't it just a matter of ANet switching them from aggressive to avoid combat? Assuming it is this easy, it'd take 10 mins max to switch each one around.

I look in the wiki a LOT. I want to know about lore and background. I want to know about skills I'm using, particularly if the skill description leaves something to be desired, as is sometimes the case. But I don't research builds, or missions, before I've rammed my head against them sufficiently. I actually consider using the wiki to beat a quest/mission a form of cheating. I never used hint books or cheats in other games either. It's a personal choice.
And before everyone gets up in arms, I'm not saying I'm better than anyone else for not using these tools, it's just not my style of play. I want to experience the world as a world, as it was intended to be experienced by the creators of that world.
I want to walk into a place and make sense of it for myself. If my character hasn't been there before, I want to look around and feel the place, as if I were there. This is one of the best things in the game for me.
The world is so beautiful and magical. In and of itself, the creation of Tyria is a marvel of programming and art.
Many people today are jaded, because game graphics are just game graphics, but I'm older than that and game graphics are really a form of art. Guild Wars is a work of art.
I want to see it as it was intended to be seen.

On topic: not overly fussed about the hench settings (getting Thom off aggressive would be mighty nice though, leeroying little RED ENGINE ) but please do get rid of touch spells off their bars.
Shasgaliel
I have no issues with henchmen except them not running away from aoe. I did most of missions and vanquishes with them and even with Alesia. I do not want healers to stop wanding. Since they have touch skills they run around like crazy which makes the fights more dynamic and fun in my opinion. /unsigned
MithranArkanere
Characters with no offensive skills should be set to avoid combat. The rest should stay in Guard.
Tender Wolf
Alesia has to be the worst monk henchman in the game. Every time I take her out she runs around like a chicken with her head cut off, and she's always the first to die. And that's because she doesn't heal herself or the party, but rather tries to tank and take the damage. She goes nuts wanding enemies until she kills herself doing so.
Other monks seem to be set on guard for me, because they always fight instead of res when they're the only ones left alive. So I have to sit there and watch them slowly kill themselves trying to do damage with their healing staves because they won't res.
So yes, monk henchmen should be on avoid combat, other henchmen should be on guard.

I don't know about you all, but I find that unless my healers are on attack, as soon as something looks at them the wrong way they run around not healing, not attacking, and taking 2-3x damage from all the critical hits. Healers actually run "Attack" mode quite well, I've found. They don't kite, which is nice in HM, and they don't run half the compass screen to attack, like warriors/dervish/other heroes do.
Bluefeather
Alesia is better compated to the monk in one PUG i got into. One guy is down and he won't rez him, so the dead guy asked, "monk, rez please..." and the monk said, "monks shouldn't rez during battle."
LOL
The guy quit
I wonder if that monk bring rez skill in his bar.
Alesia is really a joke. She's the oldest monk in this game (she's the first monk we met) but she's the most annoying of them all. She never grew up and never learned how to monk.
Too bad my monk name is Alesia Bluefeather.
back to topic, well i agree that all monks should be set to avoid combat. That's how i setup all my monks. so,
