"Used" Guild Wars from Amazon, Gamestop, Game stores. Is the CD-Key good to use?
Krazy Kat
Today I came across a store that sold a used copy of Guild Wars Platinum (Prophecies+EoTN) for $8.00. Amazon and gamestop also have used copies of the game (all versions) for sale.
My questions is... Is it safe to buy these used games and can the CD-Key be re-used or should I only buy new copies of the game?

1) cd keys can't be re-used.
2) accounts can't be transfered or sold (they would violate EUAL and get banned).
3) if you can afford it, the gw trilogy/quadrilogy pack is the best deal. since you will like the game you will like to buy all other campaigns since gw skills have better synergy when they are from different campaigns... and since all campaigns are nice ofcourse too.
If you are not sure youll like the game, you can get a trial key aswell, you will be able to play later with chars you created during trial period.

So in other words, if you buy a used copy of Guild Wars the CD-Key won't work. Stores shouldn't be selling used copies of Guild Wars if their customers won't be able to play the game!

I already own the game. I just wanted to know if this was a good way to get extra accounts inexpensively.

Most places that are selling used copies of the games are more likely than not selling just the disc - however as we all know, the actual game CD is useless and worthless. So yeah.

No, CD keys can not be reused. Always buy Guild Wars from a retail store, NOT EBAY!

uhmm.. GW doesn't need a CD key..
U get a code that allows u to create an account..
So no.. You won't be able use it, unless it contains the email+pass from the original owner lol...
Buy the real thing, or from friends not playing anymore or don't buy..^^

the op didnt mention ebay they did mention amazon and there are used ones on there. i got a local store who used to buy old games but doesnt anymore because of this same problem. id say dont buy the used cd-key and report em to the company that its illegal to sell them as used

With the decent deals floating around there's no reason to risk buying stuff like this. If you're just looking for an extra account for xunlai or something (assuming they ever fix it) keep checking amazon and newegg until one goes on sale super cheap.

Not only should you do what Ec]-[oMaN said, but you should also report it to ANet and/or NCSoft.
I don't imagine they would be very pleased with this happening.

newegg.com has Prophecies GOTY edition for $9.99 and Factions for $9.99 as well, each with free shipping. Can't get much cheaper than that for 'extra accounts'.

Ebay is for teh loze. You are probably going to find it safer and easier buying from stores, just the best way to go

Everyone has already stated that cd-keys cant be re-used so no use in kicking that dead horse. The only advantage to buying a used game of Guild Wars would be if they gave you the discs because you lost yours and would like to re-install the game on your computer if you un-installed for whatever reason. But there are probably free ways to download the game even without the cd so this point is probably completely irrelevant.

Never buy any significant PC-online game that is based on a CD key for registration used. You have no way of knowing if it's trustworthy or not regardless of the site you order it through, and it usually isn't.

I would ask them about how it became clasified as used and if the activation code was used.

Yeah, it might be worth asking about. Depending on the store, it might actually be a new copy that was never used but for some reason is listed as used. I work at a Gamestop and every so often games that have been out for a long time get converted to used and PC games get pennied out of the inventory. That could possibly be the case here - that it's not literally used but as far as the inventory is concerned, it is.
