Few Questions Concerning Current Things

Hello all, have a few questions concerning Guild Wars.

I used to play during Prophecies and Factions, but quit and have been out of the game for who knows how long. Was curious on a few matters and if anyone could take the time to answer some questions would be much appreciated.

1. First off, curious as to the population in GW currently. Is there still a pretty solid player base? Will I find groups of people still wanting to group up or a guild open to players who have to relearn the game? Basically, is it worth dropping the $50 for the Trilogies pack to get back in the game and not be frustrated that there is no one to interact with (Also, if there are multiple servers please tell me which to consider).

2. Few questions on the Dervish class. I used to play a warrior and that was fun, but heavily considering going Dervish when I play again but don't know much of them other than I love scythes (hey, we all have our weapon preferences). What sort of role do they largely fill? From what I have seen they are buffers and melee damage, but if I am wrong fill me in on exactly what they do (I have always kinda been a sucker for melee damage dealers).

3. Should I buy that Eye of the North expansion? Seems to hold content strictly for higher leveled players, but curious if it adds much to the game that I would be missing out on. By and large curious as to whether or not me leveling a Dervish in the Nightfall campaign would be boring since no one would be in the Nightfall campaign but all over in EotN areas.

4. Should I not buy this set of games again at all? From what I have heard, EotN is basically a bridge to GW2. I have no idea when GW2 will be released, but if it turns out that no one is playing GW1 simply because they are all waiting for GW2, it would be somewhat silly for me to go drop roughly 80 bucks for all the GW1 games.

5. Any other helpful advice/tips you feel I should know before plunging back into the GW series would be greatly appreciated, and hey, if you have a guild and are open to a solid player who just needs to relearn the basics of the game, put some of your info here on this thread and I will get in touch with you if I decide to jump back in GW.

Thanks in advance for taking some time to browse through this thread and answering some of my questions, its greatly appreciated!

Concerning question #2 up there, I just started poking through the site and found http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10244740 (Basic Guide to Playing Dervish).

Sorry to spam up the forums when I just didn't look hard enough, gonna browse through that and the other dervish class things to get more acquainted with them, but anything you feel to contribute concerning Dervishes in this thread would be appreciated as I will take what I can get to learn about the class.

The first thing I would like to point out is that you would not need to rebuy the game if you already owned it, it doesnt go away over time unless you lost everything and have nothing to prove you had an account.

1. Best bet is finding a pve guild that can help you, there are still pugs in some of the more difficult areas but it is not always the easiest to find groups for everything.

2. Dervish is mostly a damage class, in pve most people expect players to run one of the more popular forms and then use the PVE skill to keep it up permanently. They do quite a bit of damage, but their lower armor can be a slight hindrance in HM if you dont have your party configured well.

3. Eye of the North is a fun expansion and where you will find the most grouping going on as it is the newest expansion to the game. Also you will have access to more heroes so your party makeup can be adjusted how you like(up to 3 heroes in party still unfort)

4. It all depends on what you want to get out of the game, if you are able to get into an active pve alliance, you should be able to have quite a bit of fun. There is alot of p00p00'ing that goes around guru about the game being dead, but there are trollers everywhere.

5. 3 necro heroes in your party seems to spell a success in almost all cases very easily. If you want to make a little cash with your dervish, learn to do the droks run.

1. There enaugh people in major cities and popular missions.. Some missions and outposts are dead no 1 in them and such.... No there is no servers to pick from its is like it has alwasy been as suggested above check in and see for yourselve.

2. They relly on enchantments alot.. Alot of their skills do their full effect only under an enchantment.... Warriors Sins and Rangers are decent with scythes as well.. I PvE at least as far as i know.. you dont need to be a Derv to use a scythe .. i prefer it on the war.

3. Personal Opinion... Yes you Should it adds to the story grants some nioce PvE skills as well as normal skills, Some fun mini-games and such.. Not to mention HoM.. if you did you research youd KNow that Hall of MOnument will be a you can say big storage in which you can put armor mini pets ttile and othe racomplishment which will grant some kind of reward in the Secual Guild Wars 2

4. You can gett al 4 of the games under that price if you look at the right places regardles...GW2 is no were close to release.. you have plenty of time and people are not gonna dry up. -_-

5. As you said Yourself.. Find a guild stick witht he one you like...make friends.. and your gameplay will be fine and fun.. If not heroes can always help ya out... you should look into them ...

Anyway have fun. Hope i helped.

In regards to me just getting on and checking things out myself, this was probably 2 or 3 years ago I played, Nightfall was not even released so I couldn't check that campaigns population whatsoever, and I am not even sure where my discs/cd keys would be to prove that I had an account, so basically I would be starting from scratch.

Thanks stretchs and omel, both of your answers have been very helpful and looking forward to hearing some more opinions on this!

Also would you say that dervishes are less popular additions to groups for damage dealing than a warrior or sin with scythes? Been poking around the derv forum and seems as though it is generally agreed both of those classes do better damage with scythes overall, however the actual class of dervish appeals to me with its self buffs, etc and then maybe making my secondary class a warrior.

Groups still happen in popular places. You might have to choose more strategic times of day to play for the more out of the way outposts and missions however. And there are lots of guilds that still accept new players and offer help, it's fun to help new players into the game because it's sort of like reliving the experience yourself, and it's also a nice break from title grinding and such. Depends on the guild of course.

There are not multiple servers, nor are there uncrossable borders in the player base, so that's not an issue. Overall I'd say it's well worth $50 at this point. However, I would recommend making sure you join a fun and active guild to make the experience more enjoyable, if you join an inactive or unhelpful guild, it will be an unmitigated disaster.

Dervishes (my main character is one) from what I've seen and experienced fill the role of a front line high damage melee character. They put pressure on groups of enemies and are far more useful, at this point, in PvE than PvP (though that may change with future skill buffs). If you like melee, I think you'd like a Dervish and I would definitely recommend it.

I would recommend getting all expansions, though you might hold off on EotN for a while. Personally, I would suggest going through the campaigns in order, or if nothing else saving EotN for the last. EotN kind of brings a closure to the GW storyline, and it's also balanced for more experienced players and characters that are well developed. Get it though; while it is shorter than the other campaigns, it is definitely one of the most epic.

First, GW2 should be released in another 2 years or so, I *think* the community concensus is that it's going to be released in 2011. Second, I would recommend using your old account for obvious reasons. However if you've lost your login information and can't get into that account at all, I'd still recommend getting it. GW1 is still alive if you're not playing at 3:00am and especially if you join a good guild. There are still a lot of experienced players that are playing the game and working on titles who like to take breaks every so often and help new players, and it seems like every year Arenanet announces anotther million copis have been sold (albeit probably quite a few to older players just buying new account for mules or whatever).

I think the most valuable recommendation I could give would be to find a very good guild, there's a reason why it's in the game's title. I played my first two and a half years (and went through the campaigns) with a series of small start up guilds that all eventually dissolved. Last year, I joined a very large, very active guild at my request to a friend, and I've had more fun in the past year than the previous 2.5 years combined. It really makes all the difference to be part of a fun and active community.

I look forward to seeing you ingame!

Well regarding Devrish.. Personaly the class has to much sides of weakness you can say... I mean as i said before hand to much relieance on Echants... Being a heavy Warrior player. Id suggest Just go war and do secondary Derv for PvE. You get the strngth for armor penetration adren for healing or rush skills + Increased attack skills that are native to a war that makes them more effective oposed to being a D/W.. According to runs defiently dervishes are better then wars... But when you want to get into PvP.. War is overruling the derv (At least on my side of Guild Wars)... In my opinion there are nice builds that let the dervishes sustain himself/herself but then again you sacrafice damage and utility....

Remember Guild wars is a team game after all.. When healing is not your job but itsd DPS KD Cripple Deep wound etc . If you remove all healing and leave just pure damage id suggest warrior with a scythe but thats personal oppinion.

Then again right now assasins are "hawt" thing.. might look inot that but i usually opose this advice.. but better to know all the options.. Once again hope i helped.. Any more Questions?

Personally, I love the Dervish profession. My main is my Dervish, and I do pretty much everything with her. It's my favorite profession.

People are going to say "assassins/warriors with scythes are better so go Dervish secondary", but really...I don't find doing that nearly as fun. Assassins are pretty much "Hello there, my entire profession is built on gimmicks" and warriors simply bore me. If you want to play a Dervish, then make and play a Dervish. I find them to be more fun, more flexible, and they simply look cooler than a warrior or assassin.

1. Fairly strong, albiet a bit spread out, the new Zaishen bounty boards should help you see where most people are that day.

2. Damage, lots of it, sometimes with variations

3. Yes, especially for the hall of monuments if you want to get GW2.

4. Get all the games, there are some ingame rewards for doing so, like a special hero and the Black Moa Chick unique minipet.

5. Check the updates lol.

If you remember your account information, you dont need the CD keys or anything like that. All you need to do is go to www.guildwars.com and search for the game client download. Then, if you decide to buy Nightfall or EotN, you can simply add the game keys for access. I would suggest buying EotN, because there is a surprising amount of content, with more heroes, dungeons, titles, and PvE only skills (which are way overpowered, and therefore helpful).

If you're plunging back into Guild Wars again, I would suggest sticking with Prophecies/Factions (if you remember your account info) or just buying one of the campaigns to see if you still enjoy the game. The community is still fairly large, and you should always be able to find people to play with/guilds to join. If you decide you enjoy the game, then buying all the rest of the campaigns would be a good idea.

Wow, just wanted to say thank you to everyone who posted in this thread for all the great info. Didn't expect to get this positive of a response and amount of information.

I actually do have my old log in info, and thanks for the link to download the client, will probably be doing all that within a day or two, and going to be ordering NF so I can get a Dervish going.

See you all in game, I will post my char names/info once I get it all running again if any of you care to get in touch.
