Dye Remover
Pony Slaystation
I think that in order to honor Billy Mays (for those of you who don't know, he died this morning), Arena Net should bring back Dye Removers. They are similar to Oxi-Clean. Plus, they were more useful in my opinion than gray dye.

Dye Removers were removed from the game because all new armor is crafted automatically in Gray. Gray Dye fulfills the old roles because it returns the armor to its original color.
I'm sorry about Billy Mays, but this is silly.

I'm just saying, I liked having armor crafted in a color much better than gray. Nobody really uses grey dye too much, but people did use dye remover.

Wow...I know lots of celebrities are dying but come on, we don't need a tribute for every single one, nor do we need a thread about every single one.
However, since this is a feature that was previously in the game, it's not a big deal. But I think they should just bring back dye remover (if they do it at all) and leave Billy Mae out of it. He had nothing to do with Guild Wars and dye remover isn't that close to OxyClean. Dye remover had some cool combos with dyes back in the day before the new dye system, but...yeah. Not a major deal, I'd much rather see them working on Guild Wars 2 and fixing the XTH.

The armor looked a lot better before when each different armor had it's own unique color.

Dye remover atleast gave options,
gray dye is... wtf?

Gray dye is disgusting. I really miss each profession having its own default armor color. You can still see hints of it when you first equip it before the proper color loads for the texture.
Dye remover was great. You used to be able to get a lot of wonderful color creations with it. While I really like the new dye preview system, I really miss the colors we could get with old dye.
I also miss being able to do silver+silver, or any color x2, but that's another issue.
I'm not so sure this should be done in "tribute", but I definitely think it's something Anet should look at. I think it would please a lot of players to see dye remover brought back.

I recently saw someone sellin some original dye bottles, old graphic and everything and they were mixed, unique colors. Pretty cool they are still around.
But yeah those old colors... I've never been able to replicate them.. it sucks, but its been years and I've forgot all about it until I saw this thread. And yes gray dye does look nasty, it doesn't match ANY armor and I do not care what anyone tells me otherwise about it being better.

On topic: After seeing what armors looked like before the dye removers were removed from the game, I do want back. Sure, grey fulfills that role but grey is.. well.. grey. Do not want. Besides, you could come up with some pretty unique colors. It'd be nice to see them back, but I won't hold my breath.

ummm.... since when cant you mix different colors to armor? if you apply a dye to a armor piece a window pops up and you can drag in more dye to further change the color.
i've never heard of gray dye... silver dye yes, but not gray :P

The skins were not changed, only the crafting result. New armors come DYED gray, NOT with base gray.
All Eye of the North armors have base RED.
And all in previous campaigns, the base colors are STILL under the dyes:
- Warrior - slightly dark yellow
- Ranger - light brown
- Monk - pale brown.
- Necromancer - Red.
- Mesmer - Green
- Elementalist - Purple
- Assassin - Blue
- Ritualist - Brown
- Paragon - slightly light yellow.
If you want to see the real base colors, check the wiki. The REALLY non-dyed armors can be seen there.
Why am I so sure? Well, for starters, you can all use a GW.dat browser and check the skins, they still have the original base colors.
An second, I have a slow loading computer, and I actually SEE the dying process sometimes when I've been playing a lot and I'm low on RAM.
And what is worse, when you mix two or more dyes, with some items, the combination looks as if a dye remover was added too, and the base color affects the mix.
One good example is the Female Krytan Elementalist. Mi Yellow and Silver and you'll get Yellow+Silver+Purple.
There are other armor glitches that make the base color appear sometimes, like when you zoom-out some armors. Being dyed with a color that has a big contrast with the base color makes easier to see this.
And the 'gray' dye does not dye gray. The color it's actually xomething more like Xanadu.
So, no, don't say the gray dye is the dye remover, because it is not. It dyes armor gray, it doesn't bring the base color.
To make the dye system work correctly they should have changed the base colors to something that won't pop up when you zoom out, and dyes correctly when using combinations:
- Beige for cloth.
- Fallow for leader.
- Light gray for metal.
And then it would work correctly as intended, and similar dye combinations would produce similar results in different armors, without having to make weird combinations like adding green to get gold (true story).

Yes, bringing back dye remover would be a good thing, however, it probably just won't happen. Oh well, at least my warrior's armor still has good ol' hot pink from dye remover + purple dye from back in the day.

I just liked the old skin of the dr.

The original crafting colors were great, since they (for the most part) looked realistic and maintained the texture and contrast of the item. Grey is rather dull, and I'm not disagreeing with that. The "original color" I was referring to is the grey that armor is now crafted in.

I really do miss that old purple+dye remover to get the hot pink. Sad story is I was planning on using that combo on my monk right before the update happened, so... lol. Never happened.
I have no clue why anet implemented gray dye in the first place. Sure, everyone wanted dye preview and all, but now most of the dyes on a lot of armors look washed-out or desaturated.
This reminds me of something. I'm pretty sure that the components of some armor sets do affect how they're dyed. You can see this in a lot of the mesmer armors. I know a lot of my mix sets were hard to match up because of this.

Yeah, the krytan armor has a slight orange glow. But it's added over the mix and does not affect the entire color, it appears over the color only in some angles.
