Having some problems, would appreciate advice
hannwaters
I just started playing GW again after a multiple year break from the game, and before then I never was far enough along for end game content, etc so essentially I am an entirely new player.
Currently having quite a bit of frustration on many levels and any advice you guys could throw my way would be HIGHLY appreciated.
1. I have a level 20 warrior from when I first played, and he is roughly in the factions campaign at the point after having received Weh No Su mission and the temple one after that. I also started a dervish when I came back as the class appealed to me, and he is level 16 roughly. I do like the dervish class and scythes, however told that they aren't overly desirable end game pve and I am having trouble deciding who to focus on. If the general consensus is go warrior, is there any way to continue using scythes effectively as a damage dealing warrior? That will obviously make me appealing for pve groups to invite?
2. I am increasingly frustrated with trying to catch up to my guild, etc in terms of gameplay. I have no elite skills worth mentioning, and not enough skills to make even a solid build that I know of for my warrior. I want to be more involved with my guild for pve stuff, however I don't know how to if I can't even lately clear Factions campaign to get skills for my warrior or if I should level up my dervish because he will be just a slot filler with no huge contribution. Any solid builds that could work for my class that involve easy to get skills would be highly appreciated simply because I don't have access to a wealth of the elite skills, etc.
3. Any recommendations for pulling skills? My warriors biggest problem with Factions is that I can't pull small groups so the npcs I have end up wiping to the insanely large packs of mobs, and I don't have a ranger hero to pull with.
4. Any tips at all that you guys have for me to enjoy this game more. The continual attempt to try and catch up to people who are playing end game content while I am stuck in places with little to no people playing them because there are not many newer players trying to progress.
5. Should I focus on a new class besides warrior or derv? I like being a melee damage dealer who can pull his weight by pumping out a large amount of damage, and isn't considered a classic tank role because I hate trying to keep aggro on large pulls.
6. A way to learn about the basics of what people are running. Often times I will see them talking about places that I have NO idea what they are talking about or whether I should ask to go simply I am not acquainted with the game.
Realize this is a lot of questions, but if you have any answers for even a few of them I would love to hear from ya and try to get to the big boy content that isn't me attempting to avoid wipes in missions solo'ing with henchmen.

1. Continue with Warrior - as long as that suits your play-style.
2. So cap skills and buy skills!
3. Warriors can use longbows too, you know - never leave home without one.
4. Get Hundred Blades - and a sword ^_^
5. We already went over that, didn't we?
6. ...and that.
Just go out and get skills, old chap - that's the ticket.

if you want to play warrior and keep the scythe, try this build. i believe its pretty popular.

unfortunately, u cant do much until uve caught up to people and gotten farther in the game to get the necessary skills/rep titles. Unlocking skills and using tomes is also a good option for getting the skills. buuuuut ull still need to play the game to get to the high end areas and junk anyway. ull make enough money as you play to afford cap sigs/tomes so dw about money.

i concur with the above.
I believe this entire game can be beaten with 3 well equpped heros no henchies IF you are patient and willing to use the longbow for what it was made for.
Pick and choose. H&I harrassment and interdiction.

Helix is just mistaken. Hammers are for PvP swords are for slaughtering the PvE critters ofthe world.

Start capping some elites, use wiki to find out where. There are definitely some usable elites near where you are in faction,
Read on wiki to find out how to play.
Try builds from pvx such as the scythe war mentioned, though I'd personally make some changes to that one.

Long response here. Hope some of it's useful.
Given where you are in factions with your warrior at the moment, there's two elites you could cap which would work as a stop gap measure: Triple Chop if you use axe; Enraged Smash if you use hammer. Check the wiki for where you can get them from. There'll be better elites available later in the game or in other campaigns.
As for the rest of your bar and what skills to get, check out the guide in the warrior forum here. It'll give you some idea of what type of skills and how many of each sort you should be aiming for on your bar, even if it doesn't tell you exactly which skills would be good for an early-Factions bar.
Remember that as you've made it to Kaineng and you have other campaigns on the same account then you can always do the quest(s) to get your warrior to the other campaign(s) and learn skills from there as well as from the one you started in. (Flail and Lion's Comfort from Nightfall, for instance.)
Get yourself a long or flatbow and put it in one of your weapon slots. Flag your heroes and hench back to where you want to be fighting, allowing a bit of room for them to run forward as the enemies get in range. Make whichever hero (if you have one) cast Protective Spirit on you before you go forwards to pull if you think you're going to take a huge spike before you get back in range of your monks. Swap to your bow weapon slot, move forward on your own and shoot the nearest enemy in the group you want to pull. Move back to your monks as the arrow is flying and wait for the group to come to you. Change back to your melee weapon slot when the pull's successful and they're within range. Move forward and shoot again if they didn't pull - maybe adjust your flag if you're too far back.
Factions does tend to throw huge numbers of enemies per group at you, and half of them blow up in your face when they die to boot. Having a necro hero that you can set up to make minions to soak up some of the damage makes it much, much easier. If you have Prophecies as well, look into getting Olias as soon as possible, otherwise work through the Nightfall storyline to where you can choose between a necro and a ranger hero, before carrying on with Factions.
See if there's someone in the guild who has a new character they're taking through the game, and maybe party with them if so. Play in American districts and be prepared to wait a while in each mission outpost for another random player to turn up for you to party with. Ask in the PUGS forum here for someone to play through the game with. Whisper me in game sometime and one of my characters can come keep you company. However you do it, enjoy the journey and forget about the end-game destination for now, you'll get there soon enough.
No, you've picked the right class(es) already for how you like to play.
Every time you see someone say something you don't understand, open up wiki and type what they said into search and read up on it. You'll learn a lot about the game that way, probably more than by actually playing it. Chances are a lot of the things they're talking about will require access to hard mode, which means you'll need to have completed the game, and will require specific professions/builds/skills/ranks for it to work eg FoWSC or UWSC or DSC (Fissure of Woe, Underworld, and Drazach Thicket Speed Clears respectively). You'll be able to find the most popular builds on PvXwiki.

Triple chop is easy to cap and decent for pve, I tried it and liked it. Don't forget dismember and cyclone axe.
Most RPGs have a pretty steep learning curve, posting on guru is a good way to start.
