I'm a level 12 Warrior Monk and wondering about questing:
Some quests that travel long distances seem to have alot of mobs on the way to kill. Alot of these are my level or just under and it takes alot of time to get through this "trash". Is it normal to kill these or can you just run by them and they'll reset or something.

Lo The Fallen
Well, questing involves fighting the mobs in the way as i have come to realize.
Generally, it's not wise to try to run ahead past the monsters because heroes and henchman don't understand what your trying to do and will usually attack the monsters you are trying to get through. Sometimes if i'm close to a portal i will run if i think i can make it but you have to take into account, over-extending the monks in your party will most likely result in them dying try to heal you, giving them death penalties that will hinder you.
monsters won't break aggro till they follow you a pre-set distance or you begin to move faster.
For the other problem, as you get more into the game, getting heroes and more skills, etc. you will be able to customize build which will indeed speed up your killing of the monsters...
But for now you'll just have to bear through it like we all did, lol
Hope this helps.

It gives exp, and without them, the quests would be rediculously easy. Kill a boss and his followers for 2k exp, 500g and some tokens/requesitions/commendations, throw some alliegence title points in there, and add their loot, it quickly becomes a large chunk of stuff for such a simple quest.
Need More Donuts
You should fight most stuff you encounter for the money, items, experience etc...
But if you really want to you can just put some running skills on your bar and after a certain distance they will stop following you

If you don't kill everything you come across before you're level 20 on your first time through the game, you'll wind up doing quests in areas where even the henchmen are higher level than you and you'll get stuck at that point in the game. Much better to suck it up and fight the "trash" than get your henchmen killed as you try to rush through them.
If you're taking a long time to kill things that are around your level, you might want to adjust some skills on your/your heroes' bar(s) and/or take some different henchmen with you so that you do more damage. I'd need to know the bars/heroes/hench in question to help you with that, though. It might be that your setup is fine and it just seems like it's taking a long time to you compared with how fast you kill things in whatever game you're used to playing.
