Signet of Spirits - Worth it?
Pocketmancer
I personally don't use SoS as an offensive elite. I can honestly care less about how much power it has or if it's even bugged. The synergy it provides for builds is a lot more important than its damage output for me. If I wanted damage, I'd go for D-Slash Warrior, Scythe Sin, or MoP Necro.

Trying out Signet of Spirits, I did a few tough challenges I had not been able to do before. I was able to complete the Bad Fortune quest in the Domain of Fear. No problem this time with the fortune teller and her crew, with my 2 rit heros, necro, plus henchies. using Sos and 2 other spirits, Boon of Creation and Explosive Growth, Summon Spirits. Channeling 14 Spawning 12
I was able to heal my party for 450 by using Feast of Souls, usually towards the end of the battle.
Then I went to Hell's Precipice, to capture Aura of the Lich from Maligo Libens. Setting up all the spirits then Summoning them worked, as long as the aggro wasn't too big.
Finally, I went to face Magi the Buffalo in the Norn fighting tournament. Easy Success this time.
In order of use:
Boon of creation (before the doors open)
Signet of Spirits
Painful Bond
Bloodsong
Agony
Summon Spirits (if needed)
Gaze from beyond
Feast of Souls (if needed)
I ran through the Tourney 3 times before loosing a round. I used to do OK, but I had not been able to beat them all before.
So for now I am enjoying spamming spirits and taking down foes.

I dont play rit too much but got on mine today and burned him from 10 to 20 and into the woods to get SoS.
It is pretty awesome, and even if it is bugged it doesn't matter, because the damage the spirits do is neglible anyway.
Now I didn't run a "precise" test, but just based it off other professions i have and how fast they can burn stuff down. But regardless Rit is by far the fastest.
Bar is S of S, Bloodsong, Agony, Spitirt boon Strike, Spirit rift (not even needed in Normal mode), essence strike (simple single target skill can be replaced with anything since energy isn't an issue, I just left it), explosive growth and boon of creation. Basically all you do is get your enchantes up, run in as close as you can, hit SOS , cast agony, bloodsong, then heal your agony with boon strike for 10 more ticks (depending on what you channeling is at, mine causes 10 damage) but by then most stuff is dead.
Mobs don't react to that like they do other AOE damage and disperse they sit there at take it for the most part.
Granted I havent really tried it too much on hard mode, and when you run into disenchanting mobs it loses some effectiveness, but but always have boon of creation as the first one you lose to a Disenchant. But with hardmode i would probably replace sprit rift and essence of spirit with archane echo and destruction or maybe vampirism depending on circumstances. Because I had destruction for awhile but in normal mode it is a waste because mobs don't live for 30 seconds so you don't get the benefit of it. But Lifestealing > than damage causing, and since you get a benefit of a binding ritual with your explosive growth any extra spirit will work, but those two have most upside.
But I have seen the bug, but the way I use it the spirit damage is just icing if it triggers. Also with some ROJ monks it makes a good wall that most mobs just run into and stick to and the ROJ really makes short work of them, but usually with a double dose of agony ticking them all for 180 or so total depending on timing of the healing cast has stuff at half health or so before the ROJs even get a good cast off.
The fact that is triples up explosive growth (assuming you get right on top of them) is enough for me.
As I said haven't really played it enough to tell for certain, but this guy is totally new, heroes have junk armor and no runes atall and the bottom of the barrle in terms of weapons I have, 2 I think actually have the starter weapons that come with them, so they aren't doing all that muc thats for sure. And I know how ROJs heroes do there I have run 4 other toons through factions and ROJs aren't all that. But with a spirit wall up they definately shine a lot more.
EDITTED: and to top it all off I just did the eternal grove for about the 50th time and got master on it, first time ever, and I tried on one toon about 20 times because I only have 2 that aren't mastered, and always got 14 no matter what. So I would say that it worked Or I just got lucky, but I tried about 5 different hero builds on my ranger and none of them worked well enough to get master.

Whatever you might say about it before, wow, it's worth it now that the bug is fixed.

Yeah, now I bet it's not even a competition.
With SoGM, you need to have a lot of spirits to make it useful, and it's only good for combat.
SoS gives you three combat spirits, while being great e-management (with Boon of Creation), and having the potential to work as a spirit wall or even healing (with Feast of Souls). Bar compression ftw.

I moved back to AP.
I do Disco on my guys and the boring old AP kills faster. So I guess it's effectiveness really depends on what you are running it with.

I dunno I usually throw around painful bond, and have a guy with enfeebling blood and the hex and condition are spread around so my discord guys drop one, then another, then another like that. Between SoS and Siphon I don't miss the energy and I don't need the skills recharge as they all have <20sec cooldowns.

I was running this:
The problem was that once I had that max-ish number of minions up and running - Barbs did more damage to my target of choice than spirits.
So I moved back to AP (and more importantly - PvE skills spam!) and, sadly, it just worked better with Disco.
(Don't get me wrong - I VQed most of Cantha with SoS so it's far from being bad. Juts ... not as good as AP Disco it seems.)
