Dragon Festival - Afk title festival, What about the rest of us?
mastar of warrior
So its time for the Dragon festival again, Great for those of us that wants to max the Lucky/unlucky titles. im not one of those.sure i liked the mask, i did quests to get 250 tokens, took me a couple of minutes of running around. But after that i went back to playing the game, Which normally is Vanquishing, Zaishen quests, and UW SpeedClears.
I have a Descent connection, im below 100 ping 99% of the time.
today i turned on the computer and had Chat Delay, Delay before the skills are being used and just General lagg.
So, this Festival managed to make some ppl Happy, but got the rest of the Gw players who dont feel like Standing AFK, Being a Ball or play Dodgeball
not being able to play properly.
(This is not a whine thread. These are Simple Facts.)

Yea, problem is 90% of GW population is on during festivals as opposed to more like <50% thats normal these days. ANet needs to add more duct tape to the server.

It's been like this for like... ever... -_-
Every festival people are complaining about lag. But I only seem to have problems when running around in Shing Jea, so I really don't give a (random curse word here) about it.
You should be happy that you get those opportunities a couple of times a year. It gives people something to look forward to (and with that I mean any event, from Anet or player run) and gives you the chance to do something different then VQ or UWSC for a weekend.

Im enjoying myself, i dont afk but in like 3 hours of messin around i got 6 stacks of Victory tokens (did not buy any) and will prolly get x3 more today.
Im enjoying this, the lagg is annoying but i work through it.

I don't see how this is forcing people to afk instead of play ...i'm sure theres plenty of people aroudn to do what you usually do. If anything this event adds extra stuff not takes stuff away...stop being so selfish.
Want something to do with this event but not afk 9 rings?...well theres always the other features

I don't see how this really has any effect on you.
I haven't gotten any lag yet since the event started o.O...

You are mistaken.
The festival doesn't ruin the game for you.
A.Net ruins the game for you for not taking into account the massive number of players that log on to play during these events.

The game doesn't lag if you have a good enough connection, even during festivals. It will slow down quite a bit if you don't. I can still do everything I normally do. Stop blaming A.net for connection problems on your end.
Anyway, I only afk in 9 rings while I'm asleep. The rest of the time I a) beat all the quests on all my characters, that's about 700 points towards the sweet tooth title right there. b) rollerbettle race/dragon arena
I'm sorry if you don't enjoy doing the activities that are involved in the event. But that's no right for you to demand that you take them away from people who do.

Oh yeah, festivals cause lag a lot. I don't even bother with Nine Rings as I always somehow get stuck on the one that knocks people down and takes tickets away, even when I move. I don't know what they can do to fix it since the majority of the population seems to only come online during festivals now. Seems kind of pointless to invest in more server space for events that only last like four days.

That the Festival ruins the game for those who doesnt sit AFK in the Nine rings.

Though, back on topic, what do you want us to say? Ohes nose someone doesn't like the event because it makes them lag on occasion for a few days call the whambulance, everyone knows the servers are pretty crap and can't be completely stable with too many people online, I haven't been able to play rollerbeetle racing since I started playing 3 years ago because of the lag I get from it but you don't see me starting a thread because of lag issues a few days a year! Boohoo Anet can't afford amazing servers.
Omega Precept
I have not experienced any lag since the festival started both past and present. Except of course when I am in a district that has 300+ peeps in it... but that is to be expected.

Well believe it or not, I've played GW since just before Factions was released and I've never played Rollerbeetle Racing until today, so I've been on that for most of the day. I've got my 250 tokens and I farmed a quest that only comes around once a year, continuously. I don't like standing on imaginary rings.

Never did Beetles.
They are always on the same weekend as the AFKing so ANYTHING automatically loses to that.
Zinger314
Guild Wars is a strange game. The only way to win is to not play at all.

My account got hacked and I am trying to solve this with the support team. I don't think I'm having a jolly canthan festival like I used to (Rollerbeetle, Dragon arena, New Mask).
Let's hope to not lose more than the festival.

Everything's lagging. Shing Jea's the worst, but it's amplified the usual lag problem with ZMissions too (I was getting err19'd every time I tried to do Ruins of Surmia)...
Khazad Guard
I play with lag most days anyway (yay Australia!) so it's really no different. The only difference I really feel is when you head to the Xunlai (in SJM) up the jill (easier to go Xunlai >Boardwalk from there) my computer freezes for a few seconds when I enter range of the Nine Rings but then it goes back to normal...
My GW just went spacko though so now I have to wait for it to "Repair data archives" o.O....

This whole AFK gaming is just demonstrating that they lost overview of their design.
And which part of the design is to blame?
Who would stand AFK in the freaking nine rings for days if there would not be TITLES and META-TITLES associated with the lucky title track. Plus higher lockpick retention rates, but the money spent on tickets rarely pays off for Joe Average.
They also seem to have developed an unhealthy love for "lottery" style gameplay.
It is also rather pitiful that so many players really do everything regardless how stupid it is to max their title tracks. This game has lost its soul.

I don't really get it how to max Unlucky? Maxing Lucky is doable, but Unlucky goes so slooooow, plus it has r7 of it..

I think one solution to the lag problem is to implement some of the games such as nine rings and rollerbettle all year long and have more "original" festival quests. I know it would help with a lot of the AFK problems as you could do it anytime rather than over a weekend and it would freshen up the festivals. I absolutely love A-net for the festivals it is something since day one I thought was an awesome idea and it is still fun but a little update to the quests and such would be nice.

Fay Vert
People don't log on to play in these events, they log on to work on their "God AFK Amongst Mere Mortals" title.
Scythe O F Glory
I've been doin basically the same as OP, seeing as more than half of my guild is online and AFK. Been trying to find ways to keep myself occupied.
Gigashadow
So just curious, if you start AFK'ing now, can you even max lucky/unlucky before GW2 releases? It requires 30 days of afking, and I don't think the games appear for often or long, so probably not.
I didn't bother with it all these years because GWAMM didn't seem at all attainable to me, but I might have the other more regular titles done in another 8 months, at the slow rate I'm playing these days, so I'm starting to think about it. Probably too late for me though.

Lately I've been losing interest in GW and have/had 200k or so to spend, with no idea on what. It's all going towards l/u titles. about 110,000 lucky points so far this weekend.
AtomicMew
Yeah... I complained about AFK title years ago, but everyone told me to shove it at the time.
It's pretty retarded, and defeats the purpose of GW being a GAME not an AFK.
Also, think of the massive amount of electricty being wasted because people leave their CPUs running all day/night. Shame on you, A.net.

For unlucky, pick a corner ring. You lose more tickets faster that way.

Easy fix for afk add a activity monitor to the client if you don't move in a selected time frame you are disconnected from the server. Many online games have such a system already, Guild Wars is just a funny game in the regard that it does not.
