Was there ever an official explanation on what it was? The last thing I remember was Gaile saying she had never heard about it. I was wondering if Regina/Linsey have made a statement on it.

Wow I had heard about this being found at the time but I never actually knew that it was so far a long the development stage.
I'm very curious as to why they decided to scap it. It would have made sense had it just been a little way into development but this seems very far in and considered how wanted it was you really do have to wonder what happened to it.

I think the actual map made visible in texmod that they are looking at was the old "forbidden path" that connected GToB and the Zaishen Place, which they for some reason took out of the game... wish they put it back it was cool.
Evil Eye
Anet and Guild Wars is why they didn't add it.

Their main basic problem as I understand it, is they don't have a way to easily look at inventory data for a character that isn't loaded by login, and even if they did, they'd have to prevent you from moving the item from the inventory slot you started it in. In short they'd have to implement a completely new method of storing and retrieving items (like say, an actual database) as well as providing the extra storage space for it, and they decided it wasn't worth it.

So, no one has a link to an official statement or anything?
fenix
Never existed, never WILL exist.
evenfall
The official statement is that they won't comment on anything from the gw.dat.
The Forbidden_Path is still accessible.

That's the best you're gonna get. A year ago it seemed like it couldn't possibly not be true, but now I've given up hope on the whole thing. Doubt it's ever going to happen in Guild Wars 1.

too bad this will never be implemented. next time anet should plan such things before developing the engine.

I'm sure they would have changed a lot of things if their prescience was as good as our hindsight. But unfortunately, the game as originally conceived (PvP) did not survive the first year and at that point it was too late to rebuild the game to suit us PvE players.

I'm still waiting for something like that on the next content update. If they can create the zaishen quests, add new npc's and create an entire are and system for the pets, they sure as hell can at least add the search function to the party and add tabs seperating itens based on buy/sell and weapons, mods, misc, etc.
