what fun things are there to do in GW

Ok so i am a bit disappointed. I purchased Guild Wars Platinum edition and selected pvp but all that does is take me to an area with a lot of people just chatting.
Is there some leveling or quests or what!? I know pve would be for quests but i really want to play with other people so thats why i selected pvp.
Any tips, ideas?
Should i switch to pve? Can i play with other people in pve worlds ?

yea i would go to pve first anything that a pvp toon can do a pve toon can do nothing that a pve toon has is without.
i prefer pve toons prior to pvp so you can get a better feel of the skills that you want to use in pvp. good luck mate.

These links here can tell you all about PvE and PvP. A word of advice I would PvE first get used to skills and unlock them, Play all professions see what you like. PvP can be brutal and un-enjoyable to someone who is just starting with limited skills and experience.
Hope you enjoy Guild Wars!

Well, lets clarify a few things (from Guild Wars Wiki):
Player versus player (PvP) is a style of gameplay that pits players against each other in a competition. The objective in PvP is to defeat the opposing team(s), which can be accomplished by one of several different means, depending on the PvP format.
Player versus Environment (PvE) refers to gameplay in which players compete against computer-controlled opponents, rather than the human-controlled opponents one finds in Player versus Player (PvP).
In PvE you can also play with other humans, but you would be on the same team and be trying to defeat computer opponents.
Sounds like you are should try PvE if you are looking for quests and leveling... and yes you can form a party with other humans. In fact I might even help you out with some quests if I can.

Good luck and hope you get to fully enjoy what Guild Wars has to offer.

I'd suggest making a PvE character in Prophecies. The Community of the beginning area there is more friendly and helpful compared to most other places in the game. The party size starting out is only 2 people, but it goes up to 4 a bit later on, then to 6 and much later on there are 8-person parties.
Another option would be to start a PvE character in Nightfall, simply for the Heroes, which are a big improvement over the AI henchmen available in each campaign.
Good luck & have fun!

PvP is best to be done when you have lots skills unlocked and/or mods, runes etc. Start with PvE and learn the game's concepts and get comfortable with it.

Wow, sounds like you just started.
Any ways I'll be happy help you get of the floor. The game is easier when your playing with a guy that knows it inside and out
In game name: Zodiac Ele, add to friends list and whisper me as I might not be on that character.

PvE is really the best way to learn the game, play the story and at the sametime unlocking skills, mods, armor upgrades etc. Don't just jump into PvP because one you wont have alot of skills, and 2 you wont get the feel of the game.
PvP however is best in this game then any other MMO I have played. They did a very well thought out job when making the PvP on this game. The AB battles are loads of fun.
I have yet experanced any other game better then that alone.

When your mention an area with lots of people chatting, this is probably the Great Temple Of Balthazar, which is simple a hub, there is no PvP to be done here. Press "M" to open your map and click on one of the PvP areas (note: some need to be unlocked via doing PvP in other areas).
I would recommend doing PvE first to unlock skills and upgrades and get used to playing each class and knowing their in's and out's.

As everyone's said already, create a PvE character and run through quests gaining experience on how the hotkeys, skills and damage works. You'll also unlock new skills, all of which are automatically available to PvP characters.
The best thing to do is complete the storyline (or several!) with at least one character. PvE characters are able to PvP as well so there's no way you can go wrong with a PvE character! It's the best way to start as anyone will tell you =)

Welcome to GW.
As everyone else has said, I'd advise starting with PvE, in prophecies, it's much easier to get into than PvP, which can get a bit nasty if you don't know what you're doing.
If you really really wanna PvP, I'd advise doing Alliace Battles until you get the basic grasp of playing against others, which is vastly different from PvE.
A PvE char can generally do anything a PvP one can, the only advantage of a PvP char is it's choice of weapon mods and runes which you don't have to buy once they're unlocked (which you'll need PvE or a lot of faction to do).
Hope that was somewhat hepful.
Any questions you wanna ask in-game: Bob The Backhanded
