The Gauntlet - A New Challenge Mission (4 Member Challenge)

== What Is The Gauntlet? ==
You have to fight/run/survive through a Norn Gauntlet Race were various Norns keep attacking you. This starts out easy and becomes progressively harder with random attacks. No single build will be guaranteed to survive it. Some attacks will include enchantment removal that will go through Shadow Form and Obsidian Flesh.

Some of the more devastating attacks against you will also be more slow casting so you can either try run, interrupt or prepare to counter it. Some attacks are PBAE which can be dodged by running, and some foes are even untargetable.

== This is Your Challenge ==
- Will you make it to next chest to claim a better reward, or die trying gaining nothing?
- Will you fight, run, or simply try to dodge your way through?
- Can you make a better build with enough diversity to get you further?
- Do you have good enough reflexes to counter enchantment stripping, interrupts etc.
- Good teamwork will most likely get you further, four individualists will not.

== Entry Fee ==
There will be a small entry fee for each contestant, similar to the 100g like in a Norn Tournament Fight. Or even a trophy like Jotun Pelt. After paying you get transported directly into the arena. A maximum of four contestants are allowed.

== Observers ==
You can enter in a party with up to 8 people, but only four can do the gauntlet race. Any effects on you will be removed once you start and a hex on you will prevent any effects from your allies to take hold. As soon as you cross the starting line, your challenge begins and rest of party gets teleported to observer area separated from the gauntlet area.

== Limitations ==
Players only, any heroes and henchmen will remain in observer area.
Maximum four contestants are allowed to compete.
Consumables and Summoning Stones are not allowed.

== Rewards ==
Along the path will be various chests with increasingly better rewards the further you get. Opening one chest will finish the race so if possible so you want to try get as far as possible. Foes you kill will not drop anything. If you die on your way to next chest you also get nothing. For example:

1st chest might give you a random rare crafting material. Will you get silk, charcoal, an ecto perhaps? Perhaps a few ales?

5ft chest might get you an Deldrimor Armor Remnant, a nice weapon, a keg, or maybe 5-10 random rare materials?

It would be a great way in my opinion to bring back Guild Wars even more.

The Gauntlet sounds interesting and might be fun, the only problem I have with your suggestion as outlined above is the 'solo' element. Guild Wars has long been drifting towards a more solo oriented style of play and less of a team or group effort. Maybe if the Gauntlet idea was for a small (random or formed) team, perhaps 2 or 4 players... either way, it does sound interesting.

Yes, I considered a 4 people run as well :-)
Only reason why I chose solo was to automatically prohibit cons and summoning stones. In either way it should be an area free from cons and summonings. However, a pet would be acceptable as it require skills on your skillbar.

The suggested rewards seem modest, which is good, I assume this Challenge mission might also reward reputation points, based on how far you managed to progress?

then if there isn't a single build that can help you through this how do you win?

Adaptation, versatile skillbar and player skills is the key. This would test (and improve) your skills as a player in several ways. You must at all times be ready for the unexpected and try counter it best you can.

It would start out fairly easy so getting to first chest wouldn't be much of a challenge. Still, even first chest would require some flexibility, not just a runner or invicibuild.

There are enough challenges already and they're hardly being played.

I would sign for a new competitive mission instead. GW needs more combined PvP and PvE missions like Aspenwood. Maybe some based in Tyria or in Nightfall.

If challenge missions chests had a better drop more ppl would do it . Glint challenge is great but another one for Eotn would be great. Sad part is chances ifor it to be implanted are near to 0 :/

awesome idea! But the whole point of new content, IMO should be that we will group more, not solo. So awesome idea, just make it party of 2-4!

Make it a solo thing and it won't really matter, because GW isn't supposed to be a solo play game.

Make it a team thing and it becomes no different from other challenge mission in which you fight increasingly larger hordes of foes.

Sounds like fun, though Norns don't appear to be skilled in anti-caster, so you'd have to find a way to prohibit the magics that is consistent with their lore.

Also, the drops would have to be fairly meager, since despite your hopes in preventing a meta build from emerging, there will indeed be one. There is ALWAYS someone smarter than you and me that can figure things out. Someone always finds a way.

this seems a really nice suggestion, as I was chatting with a friend about how nice it would be to have a challenge mession to gain every different rep.

We have glints challenge that yields rep points for delver,
I would love to get a challenge mish where you can gain ebon vanguard rep points.

I do agree, 4 player would have been much better.
Like I said before, only reason I chose solo was because I wanted to automatically disallow cons and summonings in it :-)

And it doesn't have to be Norns alone, it could be dwarves as well, and some humans. Each providing their part of the difficulty.

Updated original post, changing it from a solo to a 4-party challenge.
Heroes and henchmen are not allowed. No cons, no summoning stones.
