Getting Black Moa Chick

Hi, i was just wondering if you have to use the character which you got Zho's journal on to get all the items for the incubator as it is customized for that character or can you transfer things over from one character to the other?

I ask simply as i read certain things have to be collected by the character which has the journal and as i have seperate characters for each campaign and i used my prophecies character for eye of north and if i have to use him to get everything then i wont bother as im not working my way through factions and nightfall to reach gyala hatchery and wherever else in nightfall again and will just delete the journal as its taking up very limited space in my storage.

Thanks for any help.

From the wiki:

With the exception of Nesting Material, the items do not have to be collected by the character with the incubator.

I also read that the character had to have their own copy of journal to get kathleen in gyala hatchery to make the incubator but as i cannot get the nesting material on the char with journal i wont bother then.

Just seems silly to make it once per character and customized stuff instead of 1 per account and have uncustomized stuff as it stops people like me with seperate chars for each campaign from getting without a great load of stuff to redo.

Thanks anyway.

The whole point of the quest is that it is cross-campaign. This is a reward for players who own all the games, so it has to be controlled to ensure that you can only get the reward if you do. There is one thing in each game that a character *must* do himself: obtain Zho's journal (EotN), get Nesting Material (NF), get the incubator (Factions), and beat Sorrow's Furnace (Prophecies). If those things could be done by another character and nothing was customized, then it would be possible to just purchase all the materials from another player, pay someone to take the incubator to SF for hatching, and Black Moa chicks would be as common as first-year whites. You wouldn't even have to own more than one campaign. I don't see anything silly about the way the quest is set up.

The extensive wiki article/discussion page tells you exactly which items you need to get with the journal-holding character.

From memory, I can tell you that the journal-wielder has to get the incubator from the chick in Gyala. I also recall the journal-wielder has to trade for the nesting material in Nightfall. But if you read the wiki article/discussion, it tells you exactly what you need.

I own all the games but why should i have to do over 50% of each game again with another character in order to get it? That is what seems silly, its just making people who used seperate characters for each game do a whole bunch of stuff again. Also you wouldnt be able to get the stuff anyway if you didnt have all the games so theres no need to customize stuff just making the journal, incubator and nesting material untradable would have worked fine so your point about controlling it makes no sense. You could then just transfer those items from one game character to the other via storage. Which would then allow people to either use one character to get all the stuff if that character was used to do each campaign or also allows those who used seperate characters for each campaign to do it as well.

I think it is fine as it is now. If you want more of your characters to have the black moa chick, then work for it. What you suggest would increase the number of moa chicks in the game, making this lovely pet less unique.

Why should you have to do 90% of each game again with one character to get Legendary Cartographer? There are rewards in the game for people who use their characters in more than one campaign. The Black Moa Chick is one of them. If you don't want to play one of your characters cross-campaign, you don't get a shot at those rewards. It's that simple.

You think the chick should have been a reward for something other than cross-campaign play? Fine. I think Anguish Gemstones should drop from River Skales in Pre-Searing. Isn't it just silly that you can only obtain them by doing DoA? Darned ANet just keeps setting all these completely arbitrary rules for how rewards are obtained!
