Hi there all,

I am new one this forum, so I am not sure about this topic. I do not know if it is allowed to ask a question like this, but I would appreciate some help.

After a lot of time I saw somebody playing Guild Wars and I couldn't resist the attraction so I want to play it also again. :P It is more than a year ago I played for the last time... :P

I would like to start with a new character this time and just do anything again. But I am not sure about the profession which I should take. So I would like to ask for some help of advanced Guild Wars players.

Points which are important:

- I have got all expansions (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall & Eye of the North)
- I prefer professions which are attacking. (For example: I don't want to be a supporting class in team. Of course I want to support this times, but mainly I want to be an attacking class)
- I also prefer fast attacking/casting/shooting
- I do not care much about melee/magic/ranged. But if I should care I prefer Magic and/or Melee.
- (Not very important, but would be nice): A professions which has some good solofarm builds to earn some money.
- Again: a profession which has as maingoal to attack and much about making damage.
- I don't care about looking/armour. (For example big armor or tiny clothes)
- Uhmm

Short: A profession which attacks (quite) fast and does much damage.

If you need more information/facts to tell me what profession would be best for me I am ready to answer them all.

BTW I have played WoW private servers (I prefer Guild wars much more) and I liked the rogue quite much there.

// Thanks in Advance!

You're basically screaming to us all that you want an assassin.

GOGO SF, Crit Scythe, PS, 2nd prpf for Discord, and everything else that's imbalanced about them!

Assassin: hit and run type, can move around the battlefield easily and do quite some damage in a short time. Somewhat fragile. Melee. Extreme farming potential due to skill "Shadow form"

Warrior: heavy damage and defenses. Like a real world tank - not a game "stay still and get hit" tank.

Elementalist: when it comes to dealing a lot of damage over an area, these are the guys to look up. Fragile.

However, every class had a gimmick or two that let it do a lot of damage.

Some also told me about Mesmer, because of their fast casting. But aren't they more like illusioning and misleading the enemy?
You tell me Elementalist, Warrior or Assasin are the best fitting choices to me? :P

I prefer doing a lot of damage and if possible fast. :P

I ever had an assasin, but never played it though. :P But if I choose a profession which would be the best secondary prof to do much damage on fast time?

Mesmers aren't particularly hard-hitting in PvE, save a few skills which are nerfbat-magnets.

Your secondary is going to depend on the primary, the build, and the area. If you go full-on physical, then when you go against blind or blind-hex heavy enemies (a lot of rangers, water eles) your attacks will be fast as lightning but you won't hit anything.

If you just want to crush stuff... Go Warrior/Ranger, take purge signet(ranger unlinked) to get rid of blind and tank'n'spank.

I want to be a attacking prof but i dont like melee/range.... that makes sense?

Mesmers arent great at dishing out tons of damage. You sound like an ele.

I do not care much about melee or ranged. Both would be awesome. But an Assasin would be the right one? Or elementalist?

PS: When I start up GW the screen is looking very strange and the game freezes for 7 seconds, then I can click around 2 seconds and it freezes again. :S

I'm an everything, but actually, my Ele is only lvl4. My mains are my Ranger and my Mesmer. The majority of mesmer damage comes from punishment (baddie takes damage when attacking, baddie takes damage when casting, baddie takes damage when using a skill, etc...) and with the exception of the first one, the AI just stops/slows down doing those things.

Great for shutting them down so they stop throwing meteors at your monk's head, not so great if you want to see lots of yellow numbers. You can get lots of purple numbers, if you want, but that's pretty pointless in PvE where a grawl ulodyte apparently has 500 energy. :P

I don't understand the whole thing anymore after your comment. :P Which profession fits best to me? Mesmer? Ele? Assasin? Warrior? And also if I create one, in which I do? Factions? Prophecies? Nightfall? (depens on prof i think)

You mentioned that you wanted a class with solo farming builds. In that case, you'd probably want assassin, elementalist, or monk (or Necro).
Assasins are great at certain types of damage dealing, but I don't think they quite match what you wanted. They have great "perma" farming builds.
Elementalists do great amounts of damage, but I wouldn't call them "fast". They have some good farming builds.
Monks can do lots of damage using a smiting RoJ/cryer build and have lots of farming variations such as 55 monk and 600/smite. You might want to try that. When you first start a monk, they don't have a lot of good, powerful smite skills, but they get better later.

As far as what campaign to start in goes - I think you'd have to start an Assassin in factions, but otherwise, I'd say start in Nighfall for quick access to Heroes.

Sorry if i am annoying, but I just want to have most fun.

I have an lvl 20 monk, but the 55hp monk never enjoyed me much. :P 600hp never tried.
Necro is more about cursing and sacrificing (<-Writing right?) To say it weird like someone above my post: i like to see much yellow numbers. :P
So maybe Assasin or ele? :S Or you have still other suggests? :P I just want to have the most fun, so I would like to make a right choice. =)
Also which gw? nf, factions or p?

Yeah, Assassin and Ele. Both give you yellow numbers. The last step is for you to decide if you want to fight with daggers or with magic. You said you don't care, so the expert system that is guru is giving you those two answers with equal confidence.

Hehe. I am still doubting. But thanks for your answers, I really appreciate, really!

If i do Assasin it would be default Factions. So what secondary I would take there? And how are Assasins at the end of game. Are they giving 'yellow numbers' and deal much damage? Also do they have solofarm builds and moneymaking solofarm builds?

If I go for the elementalist, what should I choose? Prophecies, Nigthfall or factions? Also which secondary profession is well for an ele? Also do they have enough well solofarm builds for making money? Do they also have much numbers at the end? (haha )

I'd suggest spending more time trying out different professions, and less time theorycrafting and asking other people to decide what YOU would like best.

Truly, if you roll an Assassin, and decide after 5 hours you are not liking it, make another character. If you make an Elementalist and find out they are not good at farming, make an other profession. You get far more value for your money trying out every profession, as opposed to locking yourself into only one.

Maybe this is because of WoW's rigidity, where the outcome of your character is decided the moment you create it, but the profession system in GW is far more flexible. Secondaries can be switched anytime soon enough, and as soon as you got a few lvl 20's of different professions, you are free to choose what to do with them.

I just made an Assasin, I am gonna tryout that one and I will see what it'll become. But what would be a nice secondary profession for my wishes? :P

This.

Try some professions out and see if you like them.

If you like primarily fighters over casters, your choices are warrior, assassin, or dervish. I currently have one of each that I play regularly. My favorite is the dervish, mainly because of the God avatars & having a lot of different effective PvE builds. (I like experimenting with skills & not being stuck with only one or two useful skill bars.)

I also have a paragon, which uses a spear, but also has adrenaline based skills like a warrior. It's more of a group leader or captain. You attack from the mid-line, like rangers, but you cast a lot of party buffing and protection spells.

If you have all the campaigns, you should have enough character slots to make one of each of the melee professions & try them all out.

for your secondary profession go ele or Mesmer that's what I've seen used the most with a perma sin...
