Well its my first time playing through Guild Wars and I am trying to "Ascend". My problem is with my current build (N/Me) i am getting like one to two hit killed by Hydras in the desert.

So I would appreciate some advice, maybe its my build not to sure yet.
Thanks

They attack I seem to remember with Meteor and searing flames, Meteor knocks everyone down in the area of effect.

So protection from fire would be good as would moving when you see them casting the meteor as its a pretty slow casting spell.

Bring a monk with protection skills.
Ranger and or Mesmer with interrupts, or take interrupts yourself.

As a mesmer I usually hit them with backfire wastrels worrry and a couple of interupts in between.
They seldom have a chance.
As a necro I just mob them with animations the crystal desert has loads of enemies so keeping a 10 animation army going is easy.

They are pretty easy when there are just one or two so try not to agro too many at once.

I think a good interrupting build for a ranger or mesmer hero will help greatly with MS and other fire skills.

Mantra of flame is awesome, and you can always grab a prot hench/hero.

In prophesies you get the max armour at a place further into the game than you are at.

Choices would be

Get the best armour you can from collectors nearby "no point in spending cash on armour that's going to be temporary."

Get someone to run you to to the max level armourer in prophesies "bad idea esp on a first playing"

If you had one of the other games in the series you could work your way to max level armour makers fairly quickly but its probably not worth it.

Thanks for all the advice definately glad i registered on the forum.
I managed to re-arrange my skills and can take the Hydras easier now (thanks to Mantra of Flame and Power Spike )

I am currently in "The Scar hopefully headed in the right direction haha.

The collector armor, unfortunately, doesn't let you apply insignias.

Drok's is the first place you can buy max armor. Collectors generally give one level of armor higher than what is offered by the nearest armor crafter - a trend that begins way back in Pre-Searing.

The Crystal Desert is a wonderful place for a new player - I think it's just about unique in that there are no quests that lead to any of the mission towns or outposts; you have to find everything by good ol' exploration.

I must say that it does become a pain when you're taking your 15th character through there, though

Just to add a little if your short of cash then collectors is the way to go for temp armour till you have funds

There is a nice little program called colector finder to assist you in finding what mats/collectors places ect

Or go to wiki armour for your class at bottom of page you will see collector
click that and it will show you also what you need to collect and where to find the guys in desert
