Free For All Arena?
slith
I love ffa games, such as lone wolf in halo and will ffa in cod4, so y not have it in guild wars?
4 people enter the arena. The match starts and the most versatile/skilled player will win.
rewards will play out much like random and team arenas, but with glad points given out at 3 or 5 consecutive wins.
gimmick builds and syncing will be a problem but it happens in ra too.

Gogo healing hands tank.
I can see this turning into a complete disaster...

I think this could be fun.

I'm not sure if GW is the right format for this style of gameplay...I mean for one thing, CoD4 and Halo are First person shooters which are WAY different from rpg based games lol. I don't primarily see a problem with this...but I'm horrible at predicting how things will turn out.
Sounds like fun and hell at the same time honestly lol.

The problem with this opposed to a shooter is GW is Rock,Paper,Scissors in terms of builds.
slith
true, but would still be fun i think
Ugh
I wouldn't mind seeing this added; it sounds kinda fun.
And, if it does turn out to be a "rock, paper, scissors scenario", maybe preset builds (like in costume brawl) could be implemented.

Pony Slaystation
Maybe give each profession a set build for the arena that can't be changed, so everybody will be more evenly matched.
Lux Aeterna
Signed but only if it's more than 4. I've wished ab for example would be a giant free for all, where you simply entered a pvp explorable area with lots of kurzicks/luxons fighting it out.
The Air Revenger
a good idea but not for guild wars. since there will be someone running a tank build or a farming build it would be so boaring
Sotec The Brave
I like the idea of preset builds to make more about using the skills correctly
slith
what happens if a skill update makes one of the build op or pure crap.
thetechx
it could work, but not in an elimination style. have it be first to 10 kills wins, or whoever has the most kills at the end of a certain time wins. sure there would be a problem with kill stealing, but what game doesnt have that.

It would be very fun to play. Reminds me of 4 man for himself match in wrestling!

i like it, but it'll only work with preset build, otherwise it just would be horrible, as for kill stealing there could be like points for assisting or something much like in cod 4. also maybe more than just 4 maybe like 6 or even 8
farmerfez
guildwars was built around being a teamplay game which is why not one profession dominates them all. This would defeat the purpose of pvp and bars lol
Bob Slydell
No. Not in the current state of the game. In the current state of the game, guildwars is based on who has the biggest ego. epeen and best of the best cookiecutta' build.
Ghost Dog
Kiddies would just sync this too and gank away.
subarucar
Use preset builds, change these builds monthly to keep up with buffs/nerfs and for a change.
Damage dealt to a target will be tracked, the person who deals the most amount of damage to that target gets the kill. That way there is no kill stealing, if you want add some kind of assist thing if a player comes within 15% of the killers damage dealt.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Revelations
I lol'd.
But seriously, this would be an awful idea. Wins would be virtually completely luck oriented, aside from anyone decent on a ranger, who would basically dominate the place. Guild wars is a team game and enforcing an individual mentality is a terrible idea.

Honestly, I think such a thing could be highly entertaining and fun. Maybe not something I'd play myself, but I could see the appeal in it.
Catchphrase
Very very nice place to test out gimmick builds. The FFA map should have a variety of environment features (e.g. snaring ice lakes) to make it even more interesting.

So, it's an RA robbed of any remaining amount of teamwork?

A waste of developers' time.

Only with set builds.
Say like 3 builds per profession.
But paragon leadership would be quite worthless...
Also would need to have something which prevents chickens/campers.....

The time for developement would be wasted. You can combat some things through versatility, but when you have even two people in a random based arena against each other, the possibilities of counters just get dumb, and scrambled. It just removes all skill and creates a rock-paper-scissors format.

Guild Wars isn't balanced for 1v1.
May the most abusive build win.

I'm using Shotgun Blast On Guild Lord!

Oh and /notsigned because it wouldn't be worth anet's time to make it.

1v1's happen all the time. The only thing I see different is that the OP wants glad points to become attributed to this (me thinks). Correct me if I'm wrong. Rewarding 1v1: Good or Bad?
I say good, or even better if a new title were introduced to resemble being good at soloing. Dunno, mebbe something around Soloist (1), Fierce Soloist, Mighty Soloist, etc.. I dunno *shrugz* sounds good 2 me =P
Prolly too much for the current One-Man Live Team to do work with though tbh.. -.-

I foresee lots of self-protective/healing damage/spell immune builds running around waiting for the game to end (at best to pounce on the last few), people bargaining and forming alliances in All Chat (even if unable to synch with friends) or crazier ones with skills like healing rings/circles and ranger spirits trying to create chaos/irritation.
It might be fun initially, but it'll soon end up unused as it is too chaotic to have a proper reward system (and no reward = no interest eventually).

I am playing monk in this arena.
Jeydra
Sure, why not? Syncing would be hard, since three of the four players aren't earning Gladiator points and you need to successfully sync every round to feed one player points. You'd take out the Monk equation, where any team in RA / TA right now that includes a Monk is well advantaged ... and you force each player to prepare to face every other build.
Good idea in my opinion; I'll just add that there needs to be some kind of tiebreaker mechanism to prevent griefers from just holding out 8 minutes and getting a draw.
Lol @ the person who said Rangers will dominate. Perhaps Rangers are one of the most versatile classes out there, but they are not invincible, and they can be killed ... especially if you can convince other players to team up and gang one player.

The only way an AllvsAll arena would work it would be if all players had the same build, for example, the Dwarven Brawling build.
Also, there should be a way to keep enemies comming, and the arena would never have a winner.
And endless punch battle.

C'mon.... say yes.... gotta beat the naysayers.....

Although, I like the idea of a free-for-all battle in theory, in practice it would be a bother. Some classes aren't designed to be a stand alone affair. Paragons, for example, require other party members to energy manage their shouts. And monks, well, draw your own conclusion there.
I saw some people throwing around the idea of pre-set builds and... Have you seen what Anet deems as a good preset build? HH warriors? QZ eles? Not to mention the builds on the henchies. I don't trust them enough to do a good enough job to make every class a build that is balanced enough for an FFA arena.
The only way I could see an FFA arena working is if everyone had the same bar of non-class skills... Like snowball skills or something. Then it might be fun. BUT, I could never see glad points attached to something like this. It would be useful for gamer points, though, and would give players the opportunity to get those points during periods of no events...

i wouldn't join the battle if you are allowed to run non-standardised builds. so i voted 3).
