I turned on my computer today and logged in as I always do. Opened up guildwars and instead of it connecting, it came to a screen where it says reparing data archive. It is taking quite a while so I am wondering whats going on.
My question is, What happens when Guild Wars repairs the data archive?

Could have been a number of things.
But, It's a corruption in the GW.DAT. Something happened while you were playing last which corrupted a piece of the GW.DAT and the file scan of the next start up didn't like it so it is repairing it. The DAT file is nothing more than a large large database of files, any of which can go corrupt and set the entire thing off.
Back when they introduced the "Log to Character Select" I had several RDA's in a row. This was due to poor coding when they first experimented with that feature and it was causing my GW.DAT to go wack. This was probably because I wasn't logging out of a character, rather calling upon char select instantly which wasn't letting game files be shut down properly.
If you press the [X] in the top right a lot or Crtl+Alt+Del and forcefully shut GW down, this can also make an RDA happen.
