NF Treasure Chests

Hey,
Just a quick question, was wondering if the nightfall chests reset at the start of each month, or roughly 30 days after you have used them?
~ Thanks

30-31 days after last opened, by chest.
To get not garbage, do not open them more frequently than once every three months.

if you read the wiki, no one is absolutely sure. if you try to use them before your "time" has reset, then they won;t work for another period of "time" some people think it is between 4-6 weeks.

I was away from GW for at least 5 months at one point, and I still got garbage from every chest. So I think I used up all my good drops permanently. Gotta get NF for my secondary account then if I wanna get good drops again.

It seems the more you open the chest with that character the higher the chances of crap become.

Yeah....
The last time and first time I ever did Treasure Hunting, was back in October of last year. To this day, I haven't been able to open one Treasure Chest with that same character. I waited two months before opening one, and it gave me the message "This chest is empty".
Tried again a few months later, and got the same message. Guessing either I'm only allowed to do it once per character or something, cause to this day, I still can't open any treasure on that toon.

I seem to recall that there was a pattern that some people thought was correct. One month after first opening, then two months, then three months, and so on. This was reset yearly I think, though, TBH, never remebered to check after third time opening the chests.

I wait about 6-8 weeks before reopening a chest and I'm still getting decent things, gold items mostly with a few purples and money.

Yes I do believe this to be true. On my main character I ALWAYS get purple items and half or a quarter of the gold everyone else in the party gets. I even waited a year before hitting a chest in Domain of Pain and I still got a purple item and only 700g. I don't bother doing the NF chest runs on this character anymore. I use my other characters now and they seem to have better luck on the chests.

Okay, thank you very much everyone, helped out a bunch

My main character gets crap purps and a token gold donation now. Althought that is after opening them since they started. Even a 6 month wait made no difference so when your characters start the slide into purple land don't start to worry about it. It's just that the gold days for them are over.

I have 10 characters that can reach all 12 Treasures and an 11th that can reach 10 of the 12. All 10 of the characters that can reach all 12 spots get purples and roughly 50% of the gold from the initial opening. From observation, I make the assumption that each character will receive 20-24 gold items, then they get nothing but purple.
I came to that number from 2 character sets. First was the characters that had access to all 12 spots when they were introduced. Second were characters that could only reach some of the spots at introduction. The first set of characters got a gold item on ALL of the first 12 chests they opened. The second time they opened them, I got ALMOST all gold items, but a couple got 1-2 purples. The big indication for me was my Ritualist. I rarely used her at the time the chests came out. By the time she got her first chest I was already getting purples on my main characters. She opened only 4 chests her first month. Second month she had access to 9 chests. Not until the END of her thirst month did she see purples appear, and that was when she was getting all 12 spots. 4+9+12 = 25 She got golds on all butthe last 2 or 3 spots, so she received 22-23 golds total.
And if you are wondering, I include rubies/gems as a gold item. At roughly the point where the purples show up, the gold hit bottom as well - some characters get as little as 30% the initial amount.
