My Corsair memory has been effected by the world-wide recall of all high performance memory, so it is holding me back in my overclocking. They can't replace it for about a month, so for now I have to run it at 1066MHz and really high timings to be stable.
Anyways, this is 3.8GHz on stock voltages. Under full load my average temp is 50 celsius across all 4 cores @ 1.141 volts. It's looking like I will be able to achieve 4.5GHz or higher with this setup!

Learn2focus with your camera.
Anyways, nice work, I myself never gonna have such a cooling system, because I don't need it.
But I like modding, so I give it a rate of:
even if I haven't seen the rest!

I can't decide if the wiring or the KY scared me more, but it's a sweet looking rig all the same. I'm sure it will be an OverClocking Beast too.

Ok, next person who complains about Guru threads loading slowly, we tell them that Kuntz did it, m'kay?
That's an impressive bodge, old chap. Looks very intestinal...

funway ftw
way out of my league but a very nice looking rig and A++++ for the presentation comedic timing ftw!!

Nice read
Looking forward to more!

very nice, awesome rig, cant wait to read more stuff that you do with it, like feed the hungry :P
Jumping Is Uselss
Sick build! That thing is definitely a monster.

Seems like 4.5GHz will be the clock I stay at, maybe 4.4GHz, gotta check my final temps and voltages in a few days. I can do 4.6 but it needs like 1.5 volts which is really high.
Brianna
Nice, made me laugh a few times. I like all the Jerry-rigging you did.

Hah, I saw this on XS just a few days ago. The captions are more epic than the build.
I find it particularly awesome that you shelled out for a Classified but resorted to ghetto improv for parts of your build (e.g. taping the jagged holes in your case, cutting up your TJ shipping box and Corsair pouch, etc.).
I've heard bad stuff about that Feser coolant though.

Well the Classified is the #1 motherboard right now for xtreme OCing. It's expensive, but I can afford it, and I really am into OCing, and with Intels your OC is often limited by the bclk since there are no unlocked Mutli's like with AMD. =[

Very cool thread, ty for sharing. I don't know where you live, but in the UK the magazing "PC format" has some cool HW stuff and they publish articles on building these rigs like you did, if you're in the UK you may want to write to them. (I think they're talking of overclocking i7 at 6Ghz in one of the recent issues, have to look at it)
I still got my issue of PC format on overclocking records, quite amazing the techno involved!

Haha I am actually in Canada, if you want to submit my build to that UK Mag go ahead, that would be cool to do.
Messy
I have no idea what you did there, I'm guessing you built a computer, a monster it seems!! Congrats and thanks for the laughs!!
<--still giggling

Nanood
And now you can run GW with 4x anti aliasing !!!

jesus christ i was eating, and then came the toilet pic?!?!

about the only jerry-rigging i've done on my computer, is holding some parts of it together with duct-tape. still need to figure out a good way for wire management though... looks like moar tape is in order!
Sierraa
Teach me your ways of wire organization. ;( Mine attack me every time I even look at my computer case.

Don't worry, I wasn't laughing at your Classified. I read XS forums daily, so I completely understand people shelling out $$$ for top performance.

Nah. And an important correction: their i7 rig overclocks at 3.7Ghz, not 6 ofc!
You paid about $2300 for that monster? So how is the noise? |
The PSU is 850 Watts, but the fan doesn't turn on until 595 Watts, so the PSU doesn't make any noise, even at full load, just because this computer at full load can't come near 595 Watts.

Mmmm nice. What video card are you using? I didnt see it on the parts list.
Btw same Kuntz from OCN? nvm searched it

Impressive build. I couldn't tell from the parts listing (barbs are listed as both part specs) What size tubing is that? I assume 1/2", but hard to tell that between 3/8"....
Also, impressive wiring. Hell, my workstation doesn't even look that clean cut. Have you ever though about doing a TEC solution?

I love this thread. Good job Kuntz!
You've inspired me to never attempt such a thing, but at the same time I was THOROUGHLY entertained looking and reading the pics.

That was interesting, kudos.

Hey Kuntz, how long did all this take to do?
Brett Kuntz
I never really kept track, but I'd say easily over 200 hours haha. I made a lot of mistakes and had to redo a bunch of things, plus the Radiator leaking TWICE(!) set me back many hours. I also have to try 4 different ways to extend the stupid Cold Cathode wires before I finally remember "hey, silly 16 gauge wire is only good to a few hundred volts!" and went with my Heat Shrink Spam technique.
I started June 19th or so, and finished July 14th, date wise.

24/7 Stable at 4400MHz
Tomorrow I will begin my ascent into the 4500 range. Temps aren't even that bad, 70-74c in Linpack, 65c in OCCT, and 55-60c in a game.

Whats your voltages at? I got a bad batch on my D0. I have to put a lot of voltage to be stable at 4.0 and can't go any higher
|
Are you turning off HTT? Make sure you also disable your mobo's thermal-throttle and VDroop. Set your QPI, NB (IOH), & RAM Mutli's to the minimum. With all of that, you should be able to do 3.8GHz at stock voltage, 4.2GHz should take around 1.3 vcore and stock (1.2v) vtt. 4.4GHz takes 1.4 vcore and 1.4 vtt.
Elder III
My wife says it looks like a fish tank and forbids me to try it: it does look nice nonetheless, although I prefer a Blue or Green glow personally.
