Did that actually happen? Were you refusing the lower offers because of the slaughter of the language? If not, why didn't you recontact the first guy who offered 32e instead of going to 30? Or was it the same guy responding to each sale?

Or did I just bite a hook?

Similiar thing happened to me when I was trying to sell my tormented sword. Best offer was 32e, the rest are like 30e>. Sucks to sell stuff you don't want these days ;s.

Nah, just seems that regardless of how cheap you're selling your stuff people will always lowball you.

But then i started thinking like this. I wanted 30e for it. So i spammed wts for 35e and sure enough some kid PM'd me and i got my 30e for it. I guess you just gotta advertise for more than you actually want from it just because it's peoples instincts to grossly lowball.

Ding Ding Ding.

Yes, welcome to price negotiation 101. Always ask for more than you are willing to sell for, because until we get an Auction house, haggling is the norm.

I advertised a small equipment pack for 1.5K. Sold quickly, but some random PMs me he'll buy for 1.2. That's 50g less than the merchant would pay for it(1250g), if anyone's counting.

Why would anyone buy an equipment pack for more than what the merc sells it for? That's like selling a black dye for more than what the dye trader lists it at.

Merchant sells them for 2.5K, but buys them at 1,250g.

I was confused too:

It sells for 2,500 from Merchant.

Merchant will BUY from you for 1,250 (except for those gotten by Nikolas or Zcoins, in that case you only get 50g).

This is how all barter markets work. Just like buying a car, nobody should pay sticker price.

Just because we aren't used to this sorta thing anymore as small markets and people selling produce out of their trunk have gone under to big corporations, and we all buy our groceries supermarkets instead, doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it.

The problem is that other than the lowballers (like the ones seen in OP's example), people in GW these days don't seem to grasp the concept of negotiating.

Lol well it sounds to me you got screwed. Guild Wars is always like this -- People haggling for anything, including low priced items. When a Mini Bone Dragon first came out I advertised for 75k and got an offer for 2k. lol

its the way of humans, we see something we try to get it for cheaper, thats why you should always start higher than your willing to sell for.

I've had the same exact thing happen to me in Kamadan a while back, the dude kept saying the same thing over and then magically disappeared.

@HawkofStorms - where I grew up the only thing being sold from the trunks of cars were items that "fell off the truck".

@OP - I also price my items with bargaining room and am very surprised (and pleased) when someone buys at that inflated price.

I agree with this.

The thread writer is correct. So do not lower it. Just come back on tomorrow and pm again with 80 e so when they say 60 take it!

I am finding that I if I want to sell something I will mark it up and then sell it for a "sale" price.

On the flip side of that I was standing there with my Mini Destroyer out and someone pm'd me if that was my destroyer would I sell it. I said everything has a price. He said 300 gold. I almost choked on my Cafe Mocha!

I was like um they are selling in post for 100K + Ectos. He said there are no ectos in pre so it is only worth 300 gold. I ignored him and the next thing I know there are 20 guys from his guild pm'ing me that they are going to have my account banned for scamming.

dont understand why everyones slating the guy making the offers?

they all seem like perfectly fine offers to me.

if someones selling something 40e, ill generally always offer something like 30e.

9/10 they will say no ty, 35e lowest or something, which ill then take and save 5e.

welcome to trading.

I don't get that system. If I want say, 40k for something, I advertise it for 40k. If I am looking to buy something, I look at the prices and if I see one I like, I buy it for that price. I don't haggle, I don't lowball when I'm buying or overprice stuff assuming people will want it for less (though I know they do). It just seems so juvenile to not be selling something for the price you actually want, and vice versa. Why all the games, people??

Gotta think outside the US suburbs.
Farmer's Markets and other style items sold by individuals (or going back in history, prior to industrialization) always had bargaining.

Like I said, we aren't used to it now, but that doesn't mean there is anything WRONG with it. Now, the guy trying to buy a 75k bone dragon fro 2k is clearly lowballing (or doesn't know the price himself). I always hate trying to sell something and somebody tries to "trade" a couple purple items for what I'm trying to sell. That's annoying, and a bad deal.
But trying to negotiate a few k here or there (and not 50k less) is normal and expected. Not GW's community fault if some people don't know how to haggle.
