A few more beginner questions
Quiet Terror
Hey everyone, I've been playing for a few days now. I took everyones suggestions from my last thread and I started to do PvP as a ranger. I learned that doing Zaishen, lots of rangers were trappers. So I spent most of my faction on a few trappers spells, and looked over some other peoples that they linked. Unfortunately I found out that a few of the skills that they were using you can't purchase with faction. Trapper's Speed was one of them actually. Also, for some reason, after I reached 6,000 faction doing this, I wasn't getting anymore faction. Is that because it's a cap? If it is, is there anything else that I can do to earn faction, and if there is what should i be working towards now? I've gotten a decent trapper build together that I liked but I'm not sure if that's going to work in other parts of the pvp game too. Should I be working towards armor now, or better runes? Or is there a bigger picture that I'm missing, haha. Thank you!

For certain skills that you cannot purchase with faction-that may be because you don't own the game that that particular skill comes from.
And yes, there is a cap on the faction you can get in one 24-hour period.
To get more faction, you can do Random arena, alliance battle, or pretty much any other form of PvP. I suggest doing RA or AB, and bringing a simple but effective build. You shouldn't try trapping in ra or ab. Good luck, and have fun with the rest of the game

Here is a link to the wiki page on Balthazar Faction http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Balthazar_Faction
It covers how much you can earn in each type of PvP.
If you have a build that is working then start concentrating on improving your armor and weapons. Staying alive longer is also important.
Also check the guru Gladiator's Arena section on RA, so that you can see what ranger builds are working there.
Have fun.

Random Arena is an easy place to get your feet wet with pvp, while earning balthazar faction at the same time.
Regarding the zaishen challenges, don't worry too much about unattainable skills. Just fill your bar with useful traps, Frozen Soil, etc, and maybe troll ungent. Someone on your team will likely have whatever you lack. For the zaishen challenge, the builds don't need to be perfect to succeed.

z-elite isn't technically true pvp because u are fighting against npc's. that is why faction is capped at 6k there. this prevents balth faction farming abuse. in normal pvp, trappers are barely used because real people tend to be smart enough to avoid stepping on a place where some ranger has piled a ton of traps. real people are also intelligent enough to interupt trappers constantly. i suggest u work on gaining pvp experience in RA(random arena) if certain skills are unavailable, u must buy the campaign/expansion that contains that skill. or maybe ur looking at wrong attribute, it can happen . good luck to u

I suggest you continue with zelite every day and then unlock skills and, when you have a decent build unlocked, focus on unlocking runes, like rune of superior vigor (whatever the name...) that gives you +50health, and then + attribute runes and some insignias that you like.
If you want to fucus around PvP I suggest, as everyone else, that you do a lot of RA to gain experience and factions. But, I think it is a bit faster to gain it in AB, and there you also get luxon/kurzick factions. But you probably need a different build for AB than for RA.

This. But don't forget... make sure you don't accidently interrupt the no-life syn..err.... i mean precious sacred syncers or they will report you for spamming, verbal abuse, or a naughty name.

Thanks for the replies everyone! My question still goes back to why I can't purchase a few skill with faction. I do, at least I believe, own all of the expansions for GW.
GW Prophecies
GW Factions
GW Nightfall
GW Eye of the North
I have all of these under manage keys, but there's been a few 'trapper' skills that I can't purchase with faction. One of them being 'Trappers Speed'. Thanks again for the great advice, I'll be doing random arenas and other things to 'get my feet wet'
Thanks!

does the skill not show up in your list? look carefully, it should be there. also, keep in mind that elite skills are 3000 faction each, instead of 1000.
with that said, i would suggest not playing a trapper for now. trappers are very good in some situations, but more general pvp, they are a niche role.

If you have all 4 campaigns on the same account, which you said, there shouldn't be a problem. You should be able to purchase from a priest of balthazar.
It could be that you already have it, and therefore can't buy it again, or that you look in the wrong attribute.
Trapper's speed is in the expertise line, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Trapper%27s_Speed
Good luck with your continued playing, and hopfully, you'll be able to get your skills
If not, I suggest you contact support.

Bashing syncers for saying they will report you for crap is stupid. I dont like them either, but they cant report you for that crap, if you havnt done it ( Thank You Captain Logic! ).
