A couple of the Deldrimor skills may be a bit difficult. Most are not. The most difficult are probably the ones from "Attack on Jalis's Camp" and its followup quest "In the Service of Revenge".
You don't need to start the Deldrimor storyline to start getting Deldrimor skills. Some come from doing boxing quests from Kilroy Stonekin in Gunnar's Hold. A couple come from quests given by a dwarf in Sifhalla. One comes from finding all four map pieces and turning them in to Korlis Deeprunner at Umbral Grotto.
Some of them, such as obtaining the map pieces and three Destroyer Cores, are more tedious than difficult unless you get some very lucky drops.
King Jalis and his posse do not appear in Battledepths until you have completed the other three storylines. At this point a dwarf will appear just outside the Hall of Monuments, and the Deldrimor storyline quests and skill sidequests will be available from NPCs in Battledepths.

The Deldrimor "storyline" is sort of mingled in amongst the other lines. I wouldn't say there's a separate Deldrimor "area" as such - unless you want to count the Dungeons. For example, you get Deldrimor points in any Dungeon (after talking to the Beacons of Droknar).
So, yes, just follow the story line. After finishing the main storyline, there are other dungeons and quests to do to get Deldrimor points and skills.
