Faction at the end of matches, not while playing
refer
I thought of this a while ago but post now anyways.
Being sick of leechers and bots getting rewarded for doing nothing, I thought, why don't they give out faction at the end of matches? If somebody sits in one spot they'd be recognized by the system automatically like it works for dishonor, but they'd also not being able to collect any faction given for all that time. If somebody is also reported too much, then they'd be unable to be given any faction either. This system would also punish quitters - if they left the game they'd get nothing. The only people who you might get not pulling their weight would be grievers, but those are rare and if you can usually report them for leeching anyways (some people may debate that, but if they only come over to mess up your side but still get rewarded, how is that not leeching? probably be better if they'd add a griefer report option).
I know some of you would say "ABUSE!" but that can apply to everything. People are too lazy to even /report actual people who deserve it, let alone go abuse length (plus too many people are unrealistically afraid of getting hex).
If this was to happen they should add a couple new features. These aren't necessary but complimentary: since there would be more bots if this change was implemented, reporting for botting would need to made public so others can see who is botting or how many have reported. Right now when you report somebody for botting, only you can see that you reported them for that, not others. A lot of people don't notice bots or only like to report once somebody does it first, so for everybody to see bot reports, that would be big. It also might be helpful to have an option to turn off seeing faction as it happens, since it's not really being received in real time.
UPDATE: I think part of this has been implemented (the part about report enough during a match, they get no faction)... can you confirm if it was here before or new for me? I just posted about it here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...3&postcount=21

great /signed. What if you get disconnected though - tough luck?

That's a totally decent solution. I think it would also cut down on disconnects during games, because players would want to see the match through until the end to collect their earnings.
IronSheik
I think another good option is you have to get so many "Points" or else you won't earn faction. Using skills/attacking something would get you x Points and it'd take at least 5 minutes of work but easily achievable for someone actually playing

I think that would be a more complicated. Also, don't underestimate Monk spam bots. They will get the however many points are needed.
IronSheik
Well what about the auto follow bots? A large majority of leechers in JQ i've seen follow position 1/2 Whole game

Good solution but you do know people will find a way to exploit it like they do everything else. I was thinking they would probably make a bot and program it to walk around and make it look like they are doing something. Once a leecher always a leecher.

i think they should subtract the amount of faction u have or get when u /report for leeching, i mean 99.99% of people dont even /report so i dought it will be abused
Evil Eye
Just don't give pvevp arenas any faction. Problem fixed.

I agree to the point of not allocating any Faction to players who haven't moved the entire match, but I'm afraid I'm going to be one of those "ABUSE!" shouters.
All of the current ways that /report gets abused will apply here, and probably make this issue even worse.

The only abuse I ever see is accidental reports when somebody is AFK since they forgot they entered the mission already. Everything can be abused but doing nothing is worse since they will get away with anything and there would be nothing you can do. If somebody is on the blunt end of the report abuse, they are hanging out with the wrong people or just got unlucky. It shouldn't happen much. Have you played any factions PvP this year too? Nobody ever reports, even known players who continue to enter mission after mission doing nothing or the same bot skills. You can say somebody's name a 1000 times and scream leecher, but not much happens. Sure you may get 1 or 2 reports, but usually never the majority of the team (how it should be). I've even leeched before and announced it as well but nobody did anything about it, so abuse is highly unlikely IMO if they can't even do proper abuse reporting when leechers flat out tell them what they are doing. Unless you actually taunt or egg the team on, which most non players don't since they are AFK, they don't report. The new update which auto reports on no move was a big step forward, it really removed leechers or converted them to super noticeable bots. What I suggest is just an extension of that. |
I see the "people do not use /report" problem mostly in FA/JQ, due to the way that the teams are made for either side (random), people seem to not care at all in those PvP area's. In AB, I only run with guild/alliance members and with friends, and all 4 of us /report leechers/bots if we find one, so it's a much lesser problem.
As for the abuse of the "/report" feature, true story here:
I was ABing during the Alliance Battle weekend with some of my friends, when out of the blue some random player reports me for leeching and starts shouting in team chat that I'm a leecher and that others should report me too. By the end of the match, I had 6 reports against me for leeching, despite not having done anything wrong, all because one player had a grudge against me apparently.
(note: this is only one story, but there are plenty of others, asking around in-game)
Until ANet fixes the way the current "/report" system works/gets abused, I would prefer no additions being made to it.
(yes, I do recognize leeching as a serious problem, and I want to see the problem resolved, but I'm just skeptic about what your suggested "/report" additions would accomplish)

That would be nice to cut a leecher/botter's reward. But as said, anything can and will be abused.

Bots always evolve, but even current generation bots already circumvent this. Great, lets waste developer time with a solution that is already useless.

10. "It'll Never Happen!"
Due to the current situation in Guild Wars itself, several people have been seen posting replies to threads stating that users might as well not make suggestions for Guild Wars: 1 because ArenaNet will likely not take any notice, or implement anything else. Sardelac Moderators would like to remind you that this is a place for discussion, and to share ideas, regardless of how likely they are to be implemented in GW:1.
It's about the idea and if it is good or bad, not "it shouldn't happen because there isn't enough time".

It would definitely reduce the amount of leavers, how much it would help with the leechers and bots, I dunno.

Hey guys, I think part of my suggestion was implemented recently (or I never saw it before, but I was pretty sure it was never there). Read what it says about reporting for leeching:
If at least half of your team reports this player, a further penalty will be applied preventing any faction or XP gain in the match.

Even if it's not perfect, it'll make a difference.

/signed. I like the idea not only because leechers but it makes players endure the whole match instead that some leave while they did get some faction for abandoning their teammates.
