New Review of Guild Wars
Bargamer
So Cosmos Gaming got a new reviewer (me), and I've been focusing on RTSs, RPGs, and MMOs. One of those is Guild Wars, as between the other two guys on the staff that I know the screen-names of, I'm the only one who likes it enough to write about it. Lemme know if there's any obvious, glaring errors or inconsistencies I should know about.

it's meh. and somewhat biased.
arch psyker
personally, I think you are highly bias as a reviewer.
No game deserves a 10 in my opinion, every game has issues and Guild Wars is no exception.
Good read though, highlighted most major points of the game.

Your scoring needs work. I don't care how much fun GW is, it's 5 years old, you can't give the graphics a 10 anymore. And while Soule's music has plenty of fans, the sound effects and voice acting are nothing impressive. It makes one wonder about your objectivity in the rest of the categories then.
This also isn't really what you expect from a review either. Generally reviews are for people who are looking for a game to play but aren't commited to GW yet, so you don't want to bombard them with details such as every single class in the game. Specific builds or secondary combos for example are completely pointless to discuss. What you do want to talk about are things that relate to everyone's gaming experience: whether the storyline/characters are interesting, whether the enviornments/mobs are varied or monotonous, things that seperate GW from other MMOs such as the level/item caps, focus on structured team vs team pvp, system requirements vs graphics, how well or badly grouping works, and so on.
I'd go look at some stuff on gamespot and IGN, including their GW reviews. While not from a 5-year perspective, they were generally positive yet fair and did point out some flaws. More importantly they stayed on topic with things non-GW gamers would actually care to read through.

Waay too long...I didn't read the whole thing even.
The bias is the major killer though...perfect 10's? I can see a solid 8/9.

tl;dr, not biased enough

I could understand 10's in graphics (when comparing to games of the same age; and when comparing it to the system requirements), Gameplay and Environment (though I would put 9 in each) but sound and REPLAY? Sound, 8, replay, 7. That's my opinion.
No game should get straight 10's. None. Why? Because that would mean the game is perfect and nothing is perfect. I think you either don't play enough of other games, or are far too biased. Seems to be the later. No offense intended of course.
Also, you misspelled Prophecies. :x

Straight 10's?
Sound I would give a 6. Yes, the sound effects are outstanding but in game music is outstandingly bad.
Gameplay is outstanding compared to other MMORPG's, but to today high standards it is lacking a little, 8.
Models are so stiff and they have cut out model plants which is almost unacceptable for 2009, 7.

It's not a "review", it's a "fanview". Prophesies.

"in game music is outstandingly bad"
You've gotta be kidding me...
Sometimes the music doesn't cue at the right time, but the music is definitely NOT bad.

You guys would complain about winning the lottery, wouldn't you? "Oh, like a million is worth ANYTHING in this economy..." XD For what I'm paying every month, which is ZERO, this is a great game. Not even WoW is flawless or pleases everyone, and it's made by Blizzard, for a monthly fee.

If you can't take constructive criticism you should not have posted this.

Also, your comment just proves one thing: You are giving a very biased report, because you love it because of the no pay to play policy. No game is flawless, no game will ever be flawless. Having to pay more for a game doesn't make a game more or less flawless. If you are a gamer of any calibur, you should know this. And just because a game is "made by Blizzard" doesn't mean anything... It'd be the same as saying a FPS game isn't good because it isn't made by id (for those who don't know what id is - they brought us DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein *along with Commander Keen!* which were three of the biggest FPS games of their time, and high improvements on gaming).

This reminds me of a time where I owned only TWO video games: StarCraft and Myth.
So I compared them for an internet only magazine my friends were working on.
It was awful, I couldn't decide which game I liked more, so I tweaked each rating (Gameplay, Graphics, Sound, etc) in order for them to end up tied.
I don't think anyone ever read it, because I didn't get a single comment. (Too bad Bungie gave up Myth though... it was a good game).

10/10/10/10/10?
Sorry, this is just... so wrong.
I understand I can give Diablo 2 10/10/10/10/10? Just because I like it very much?
