My Brother May Play Guild Wars Again!

When i first bought guildwars, i though it was great! i only started off witht he factions platinum edition, with factions and phoph GotY edition.

My brother played for a few hours in total andkept saying that it wasnt as good as he had expected it to be. I though differently though, it may have been because he started in factions while i started in prophecies, and i know that not many people like factions.

He got to the point in factions where you have to do that thing to earn your insignia or something like that, you know, the optional thing you can do when you do all of the forms of combat like defence, snaring, that sort of thing.

Anyway, he couldn't do it!(lol) So he quit guildwars...

He was an ele/monk and level 7.

ive been trying to get him to play guildwars ever since he quit but hes refused... untill now!

He says that if i make his character mcuh better than it is now and get him past the bit he is stuck on, AND... make it so he specializes in air and water magic, then he might start playing again!

That's bad cos I do fire magic all the time with an ele, and sometimes earth magic, so water and air will be hard for me.

I tried to explain to him that it wouldnt work well and that eles have much higer energy than monks so if hes not doing anything with his monk attributes then he might as well just make an elementalist!

Bue he wants to stay as an ele/monk...

So does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?

Thanx!

Specializing in an attribute?
That's a bit weird.

I use fire most of the time, but I will always change to something else when fire won't work as fine.

My suggestion is to slap him silly and explain him that there is no such thing as 'specialization' in a game in which you can change your build in 3 seconds.

There are several decent Air and Water (or is it Air or Water??) on pvxwiki. Look in the PvP section and modify if desired.

As for getting him past the insignia part where he is stuck, it's optional so tell him to move on and come back to it later if he wants. I skipped the insignia part on some of my characters, only doing the bits that gave me skills.

Here is a link to the basic thread on eles from the Campfire section.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10314574

Section 9 (post #2) gives a basic build for a factions ele that should get them through the island.

But I would like to point out that he still won't play much after you level his character. He won't have learned how to play the game.

What I understood from the OP is basically this: "QQ I can't do it, do it for me QQ" - guess it runs in the family.

There is nothing to say one shouldn't be able to do anything. For one, don't "specialize" so quickly. With new characters, it's always good to be able to go to any element needed. That is the main issue, especially when it comes to Elementalist. Each element is based on something else. Roughly speaking: Fire with AoE damage, Earth with protection, Water with snaring, Air with single target high damage. Sometimes you'll need to use the other elements if you want to be a "good" elementalist.

that would be fun having your brother play with you once again...but HE wouldn't enjoy the game since he didn't set up the character himself..like it was stated above.Have him start over again in Proph possibly?

It sounds as though both of you are lacking an understanding of some basic features of the game. Perhaps you've been playing some other game(s) where attributes are "fixed" and can't be changed once you "specialize" in something.

In GW, attribute points can be shuffled around and reassigned in any outpost. Also, a particular set of attributes and skills can be saved in a Template. So, basically, to change your Ele from fire to water you would start by saving your current fire setup as a template. You would then move your attribute points from Fire Magic to Water Magic and put together a set of skills (and save it as another Template). Another thing to do is to put a Minor/Major/Superior Rune of Fire Magic on a headpiece with fire magic +1 on it. Also put a Water Magic Rune on another headpiece that has water magic +1. Then, all you have to do to switch from fire to water is to load in the appropriate Template and switch Headpieces.

Lvl 7 in Factions? That's what, 30 minutes of game time? *shrug, GW isn't for him then, just take over his account and get him to play something else.

If all your brother means is that he wants to be able to play a full water build, you should be able to find some online. However, as mentioned earlier, considering you can change your attributes, it would probably be best to pick up many skills so you can switch to and fro.

Also, it sounds like he's waiting for you to persuade him, and... well, since the change to skills I can understand some insignia quests being more irritating than before. Even so, if he wants to drop out so quickly at the start of the game... possibly elementalist isn't for him. If not, I'd go so far as to say that perhaps the game isn't for him. There's really no point if you create a character for him, he doesn't know how to use it, and he gets stuck and gives up again. You playing the character through for him is just that, not you playing with him. Sorry.

I wouldn't do anything for your brother's character; this is a game where you need to learn the basics by yourself or with an additional person. He can't have you level him to 20, get him to Kaineng, and expect himself to be a great team player (whether it be PUG or H/H).

However if you choose to continue with this -- good luck to you.

I know loads about guild wars, he doesn't.

He told me that he wanted me to put attribute points into air and water and get air and water skills.

I think mesmer would be best for him, because he said that combat isnt very good beacuse all you do is click on your strongest skill then click on the 2nd strongest skill while the other one is recharging... I think differently. Mesmers require more skill than elementalists.

I will get him to read this entire thread and I will tell you his responce.

Will reply soon.

He said that he might act on it and might start playing gw again, he said that he prefers stragegy games such as the total war games, things like that. Although im just trying to get him to pay gw again!
