where can i get a helmet in exchange for spider legs or some other item. Thank you.

If you're still in pre-searing, you can talk to Professor Yakkington and give him 50 red iris flowers for a helmet.

But personally I would not bother with this. Once you go through the academy to post-searing, the first city you arrive in will have much better armor available at an armor crafter.

For warrior armor, for example, the starter armor is 25 AL (where AL is Armor Level). The collector armor is 27 AL. But as soon as you go to post-searing, you can get either 35 AL armor or 50 AL armor, depending on which NPC you speak to.

In general I skip the pre-searing collector armor, unless that character is going to stay in pre-searing.

It's also worth considering that collectors armour cannot be upgraded with an insignia (with the exception of EOTN collectors).

That is true for max armor from collectors, but not from collectors offering armor below maximum.

you can upgrade krytan and any other "collector" armor with insignias...
