Thumbs up function

Don't know if it's been suggested before but it would be nice if we had a little button in the corner of each post - a thumbs up style button which raises the posters lets say "helpfulness points"

you can only thank once per post

this is mainly for the ppl who really help out in the FAQs or PC section

if it gets "abused" you can see who thanked whom and question if it gets suspicious

note that a "thumbs down" would be used like the current report system in GW so I wouldn't like it here

any thoughts?

Overall I just don't see this being that useful.....
- there is already a feature for rating threads
-some people would just mass accounts to thumbs up themselves...

But It would be nice if a enough thumbs down blocked a persons post kind of like the YouTube comment system....

I have to be honest here;

I HATE this feature. I absolutely hate way it gets used on YouTube, HATE the way it gets used on forums.

There's a rating system for threads, out of 5 stars. That is enough.

It works on Slashdot because the majority of posters are mature readers who are interested in the content.

Unfortunately, a large number of members here are here because they are bored, and prefer to troll rather than contribute. Once you have been here long enough, you get a good feeling of who knows what they are talking about, and who is looking to increase their post count. This is better than any rating system.
