My gf is an Ele/Mes and we've got a couple of questions:
1. Right now we're going the Pyromancer route cause fire spells are more readily available. So, is there a difference between having a Basic Water Wand or a Basic Fire Wand, eventhough she's a Pyromancer? It shouldn't right? I mean, you don't get any bonuses do you with the Fire Wand just cause you put in att points into Fire, right?
2. In the future, she wants to go PVP. What's do you think is the best Element for PVP, and why?
Thx in Advance!

I believe that yes you do get bonus damage usiing a wand in the same element you have attribute points in. I am not sure anone else have a more definative answer

Only difference between basic fire and water wands is that fire wand does fire damage for your normal attack, and water does water. However, later on, the higher damage wands have attribute requirements. For example, it might say requires 7 fire magic, so that means if you want the wand to do the damage it says, you'll need to put 7 points in fire magic, or else it'll just do the lowest damage possible.
There's no "best" route for PvP, and that's part of why this game is so balanced and great. There's a limitless amount of possiblities you can explore.
However, some elemental trees will be better at one thing while others will be better at another.
I'm not that experienced with pvp, but this is what I think:
Fire: Not really that great IMO. Although most of its AoE's do a lot of damage, people need to be standing in it to get the damage in. Against real players, they'll move, so a lot of times you won't be doing as much damage as u want. Also, most of its spells have really long cast times, so you'll very likely be interrupted by opposing disrupters. The tree is overall fairly mana intensive too. Mark of Rodgrot seems pretty interesting, but I don't know how effective that is.
Earth: I think this is pretty viable for PvP. With Aftershock and Crystal Wave's 3/4 second cast time and low mana cost, you can get in some nice damage without having to worry about being interrupted. Obsidian Flame is also really nice, since it ignores all armor. If you can pull off an Earthquake, a quick follow up with Aftershock + Crystal Wave + Obsidian Flame can do some AoE damage and perhaps even finish off someone. Earth also has some +def skills and various wards that could be very helpful.
Air: Some pretty good skills here too. A lot of its main skills have 25% armor penetration, so you can really do a lot of damage to single targets. Glimmering Mark is also good for blinding warriors, and in conjunction with conjure lightning, you can keep the oppossing meleerers blinded for a long time, or at least enough time to wait for your main damage dealers to be active again.
Water: Probably the lowest damage element out of the 4. However, it has a wide variety of disablers, not to mention IMO the best elemental elite: Water Trident. Your damage will be low, but you can go around knocking people down with trident, slowing people with your various freezes/ice prison, and run away from pesky warriors with Armor of Mist. Also leaves room for some nice secondaries to come into play.

I have an E/Mo15. I put most of my points into Fire Magic and Energy Storage and then put points into Healing in my secondary profession. If you do want to split your points like the above poster mentioned, you'd more than likely have to have ONLY a primary profession. I just haven't seen many people doing that.
I really believe you need to keep putting a lot of points into Energy Storage. I mean you eat your Energy. You need a lot of it. I do agree that for PvP it's tough going the way of a Pyromancer, but I have a PBAE which does fantastic damage when the enemy is right on top of me. I also cast that spell that allows you to gain health back at a percentage of the Energy it cost to cast it, while my PBAE is doing it's thing. The enemy tends to back off of me for a bit, but I also lose a great amount of Energy during that time period. Which means I have to run off to build energy so I can cast a group heal or Rez. And I will tell you the Warriors come right at me during PvP. It's not an easy profession to play in PvP, especially when everyone else thinks that your a Monk primarily, even though it says E/Mo (the E's in front, not the Mo)
In PvE, I do great damage. Sure, I have to have a few henchmen or player group in coop missions, but I love this toon on the PvE side.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing that if you go the Air/Water route and place the rest in Energy Storage, it would basically nullify your 2nd profession. But I wouldn't be surprised at all though if catharsis or anyone else has seen or used this type of build effectively. That's what I love about this game, so much variety and experimenting! Thank God for refund points as well. What Element did you go with in your PBAE Ele/Mo...I assume fire?
