I'm very new to this game so I thought I woud come here for some good advice.
I have a level 8 E/Mo that has done all the quests in pre-searing. Also went charr hunting with a level 13, was great fun.
My question is what should I be doing now? Some told me to move on to post, others that I should stay in pre-searing till level 20. If that is correct then where is a good place to level some more? Only the charrs? Or is it time to move on?
Advice please

Move on. Rank 8 is a fine rank at which to leave Pre-Searing and get on with the game, if you've done all the quests.
Staying until you are level 20 is a nightmare that I wouldn't advise for a player new to the game. For one thing, the *easiest* way to do it involves careful planning and not accepting most quest rewards until you are level 19. After level 16, you can only advance by death leveling, which requires many months. And that's ALL you will be doing for those months -- dying repeatedly for hours on end to raise the level of some Charr, killing the Charr that you've raised, then starting over again for another round.
As a new player, I think you'll be better off and have more fun experiencing the whole game. Someday (when you're a jaded old player ) you can make a new Pre character if you become interested in going for the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title.

Thank you, that is what I will do. I was getting a little bored.
One more question... I was given a good staff with +6 (or was it +8 can't remember right now) energy and was told to not upgrade it till I got to post and put runes in it. Is that the correct way to go?

That really depends staffs will get better then that as you go on, as well as better mods. Most Max staffs have a basic up to +10 Energy before mods. So the base stats can get better. I would wait till you get a max damage staff and the +10 energy before worrying about mods. If your a new player did you purchase the game of the year version of GW? If so theres a bonus staff in that version.

I got the Game of the Year version so I will check out the staff. I'll go check ncsoft and see how I acquire the bonus items.
What I was asking is should I pay the weapon merchant to upgrade my item now or wait till it has runes in it? Someone told me I should wait.

A weapons merchant cannot upgrade a weapon, he can customize it which gives +20% damage and makes it usable only by you.
To upgrade a weapon you need Mods, staffs can have an upgraded head and wrap, or A prefix to the staff name and a suffix: Hale (Head) Bone Staff of Enchanting (Wrap) these come on unidentified weapons (blue, purple, gold lettering) and can be salavaged of with an Expert Salvage kit (you can buy from merchants in post).
Runes drop from unidentified armor drops (such as Charr Shaman Robes or whatever they are called) and can be salvaged for use in your own armor.

Great info, thank you so much.
So I can go ahead and customize it and look for "mods" later on, or when I get an even better weapon.
No more questions for now, but I'm sure I'll be back with more later on.
Thank you all for all the help.
