60+ FPS problems (graphical issues)

Alright, i got myself an new computer and im using the GTX260 graphics card. It worked just fine for the first two weeks staying at 60 fps due to Vsync. And suddenly my FPS started to go wild. Whenever i reached 65+ FPS i get graphical issues. Skills recharge slower on the screen than what they actually do. I walk in slowmotion for a few meters and then suddenly i pop forward. Timers (in HA for an example) are getting delayed. Like.. when my timer was on 2.16 my teams timer was on 0.

Theres several other things that also happends but the point is that this is pretty much preventing me from playing guild wars. Im stuck to my old computer instead of using this new one which kinda sucks.

I got a Syncmaster 2232bw screen which aint supporting more than 60fps. Still i went into the Nvidia control panel forcing the vertical sync to be on, and made sure it was checked on in the guildwars graphics options. My FPS now gets stuck at somewhere between 60-75 instead of 60. Whenever it gets to 65+ i get these problems which is reealy annoying. I mean, theres lots of people which run at 120~fps without any graphical issues, so whats wrong with my comp?

I tried almost everything you can think of to get rid of this problem without any sucess at all.

Any answers are appreciated Thanks.

Hey, im not much of a computer expert and havent had the problem myself...

But, my guild leader has had this problem at around 60+ fps in game his timers slowed down and were off alot. He tried contacting support but they could not fixed the problem.
Thing is supposidly when he tried making a fraps video of his problem and slowed down his fps to around 30 or so the timers were fixed and everything. But idk how u can slow it down in game but supposidly thats the problem.

I hope that helped u figure out the problem now its jsut a matter of fixing it : /

Best of luck to you!!!

Sounds like network/ping lag not graphical lag to me. In fact I'm 100% sure it's network lag, have you got any programs like Limewire or uTorrent running in the background because those programs take up every bit of bandwidth it can get.

use the -fps 60 command line switch to limit GW to 60 fps. i don't know why your game is doing this, but if it is really has anything to do with your fps, this would be a good workaround.

I have the same problem you are having. I call it a hickup. My energy will show zero but i am still able to use a 10 energy skill. I am also able to hit a skill that is only 3/4 recharged. I have learned to just live with it.

But i just reformatted my comp a month ago and it did fix the problem. But only for a short time. It seemed that when i added more programs to my comp the problem started again.

Now my comp is pretty old. pushing the 10 year mark i have 512 ram pentium 4 with a geforce 5500 video card. My FPS stays at around 10 all the time. even when i didnt have the hickup.

I'm not sure if this info will help you out in anyway. But i thought i would share it being i have the same problem. To be honest. I'm not sure i can play it any other way now..lol

Try this, when Guild Wars is running hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, go to the "Processes'' tab, find Gw.exe, right click it, then hit ''Set Affinity''.

Now uncheck all the cores except one and see if you still get funky problems. When I don't install my Dual Core optimizer on my computers it does these things in Guild Wars.

-Make sure you have the proper Processor Driver installed. Yes, even processors have drivers.

-If you're on XP, there's no way to disable power throttling, so if installing the latest Processor Driver does not fix the issue, disable throttling in your BIOS. It is often called AMD Cool 'n Quite or Intel SpeedStep.

-If you're on Vista, go into Power Options, Advanced, go to Processor, and under Minimum Processor Usage change it from 5% (default) to 100%. This will force Vista to use 100% of your processor all the time. Also make sure to disable all power saving features in this area as well.

-Both nVidia and ATI also use dynamic power saving features that are automatic. And if they fail or are buggy, which does happen, they can cause very strange things to happen, which can include playing some games completely fine and others not. The only way to test this is to put the suspected card into someone elses computer and see if it happens there. The solution to this problem is to get the card RMA'd.

Your card is broken and should be replaced. First, try to get it replaced at the store you bought it from. Stores typically offer far superior RMA policies than companies. If the store wont give you a new one right away, and wants to mail it away for you, refuse that option and mail the card back yourself to the company directly. There is typically a phone number or email address you can contact for information on how to return a product.

Well there's nothing you can really do about it. I assume you've tried older or newer drivers? And all the typical troubleshooting?

Well then it is clear your nVidia card is defective. You need to call or write the company who sold it to you and demand a new one. It is under warranty since that particular card isn't 3 years old, and they are legally liable to replace it for you, since that is what a warranty is, a legal agreement. Explain to them that no matter what computer you install the card into, that computer stops functioning properly, even though it functions properly with other video cards. They should have no excuse at all to not replace it. The power saving bugs happen on both types of cards, it's pretty infrequent, but a quick search of various hardware forums and you'll find lots of people having the same types of issues; Most games work fine, some have problems, and some games don't even work at all.

Which company sold you the card?

Ah yes, well I'd never buy a card from them anyways, but now I definitely wont.

eVGA is ftw here,
Register your card and it has a lifetime warranty, if its "new" enough upon registering you're applicable for the "step-up program".

Huge plus

Yes, EVGA for nVidia, Saphire for ATI, pretty much sums up what everyone should do unless there is a good reason to buy from another company.

Does it have a reference cooler? If so, then that means all the cards have that cooler regardless of company. There are few companies who release few cards with non-reference coolers. Those cards are typically a lot better (better power components, regulation, caps), quiter, and are a bit more money though.

Set your refresh rate to 60 and enable VSync (vertical synchronisation).

Doesn't say if it's a reference cooler, doesn't look like one though, and it does use some nice caps.

I checked my FPS (ingame, the green button-thingy..) and it was was around 200 FPS the whole time, 220 was the most, but I have not had any problems like you did.

(To be honest, I don't believe I really have 200 FPS..what's up 'bout that?)
