Paragon or Dervish?
Accursed
I have read both of the guides at least twice and I still cannot decide which to make, and no, I don't want to make both.
They both seem very fun to play, but now I just need more opinions on this matter.

Ugh
I find derv more entertaining.

Personally it's a bit easier to get into a group as a para. Dervs compete with 3 other melee classes for the one or two spots that ppl are willing to dedicate, as a paragon there's a bit more room to work with.

Never tried Dervishes, but I like paragons. Spamming shouts and spears with conditions is actually quite fun.

Dervs sound more interesting (I haven't played either), though it sucks that other people can use your own weapon better than you can. Melee is more fun than ranged imo.
HawkofStorms
I've played both. Found paragon boring. Derv is a lot of fun if used correctly.

In my experience, Dervish is a bit more exciting to play, but Paragon is a solid class as well. If you get the dervish PvE only skill Eternal Aura, that allows you to permanently maintain your avatar skills, since it recharges all of your dervish skills upon ending. I guess you could ask yourself if you'd rather be upfront, attacking an enemy, or staying back shouting and supporting the party.

easier to get into a party as a para than a dervish although as a para u pretty much will run imbagon (pvx that if u dont know what that is) 90% of the time
Cuilan
Play style wise, the paragon stands in the middle of your group and shouts off support while the dervish gets in a group of enemies after the tank to deal damage/cripple. Dervish can support and the paragon can deal damage, but that's what they're mostly for typically. I'd say dervish because they're more engaging.

Paragons are a fairly unique class. There's no other class that does quite what they do, the way they do it. Unfortunately, you have few good build options. So if you get tired of playing imbagon, you're in trouble.
On the other hand, despite what Anet intended, the dervish is a standard melee class. 90% of what it does (more like 99%, actually), can be done better with a W/D or A/D (even with today's buffs). However, the dervish does look cooler than the competition. It has like 5 builds that it's competition can't do better.
So it's overall usefulness to a party (Para) versus build options (Derv).

My Dervish made it to level 20 before getting ditched, my Paragon made it to level 6.
Maybe the buffs of the Dervish skills yesterday will make the Dervish more enjoyable to play.

Both classes are interesting. Dervish are basically mêlée (frontline) and Paragons are ranged (midline), maybe you should base the decision on which type of game-play you prefer?

i played both of them and even though my para is still my main, i find him quite boring, dervish is pretty good, specially in pve where mobs group and you have a scythe.
Jarot
I really like my Dervish. I find that with skills, he can take care of himself in almost any group or by himself. He is the one I go to when I want to play aggressively and just slice up stuff!
Slasher of Darkness
My main is a derv, 13 maxed titles and closing in to 15..I like him alot, even tho alot of the times I'm discouraged by the fact that A/D (cba with W/D) does scythe better then I do, and I find myself asking if I should continue my dervish, but I always come back to it.
But on the other hand I never tried a paragon, but imho, they only got 1 GREAT build, and from what I've heard, that build is boring also. If u do it right, derv is LOADS of fun.

id make a para and had both and deleted both cause i never used never liked either of them tbh but my para was more fun and easier 2 get into grps and if Shadow Form ever gets nerfed a SY Para would prolly make it into a group easier in the future
Smarty
So many para haters. :P
I've got both.
Derv made it to SS Sanctuary/Bloodstone Fen two years ago and has been a mods mule ever since because I find the pre-fight enchant-casting rigmarole to be a yawn-fest, and if I'm going to play melee I'd rather play as a warrior. I freely admit I've not played a derv enough to really know what I'm doing, but the (comparatively) little I have seen I've not enjoyed.
Para has been my main for the last few months and I'm getting close to 10 maxed titles with him. OK so pretty much all I run on him is imba, but that's because I pug with him for zquests most of the time and it's a bar that gets the job done spectacularly well. I'm more of a caster at heart and the para is an interesting variation on that theme for me. Much, MUCH easier than mesmer for sure - I can overaggro like crazy even in HM and not wipe.
Depends what playstyle suits you best, as others have said, and on who you'll primarily be playing with (pugs, friend, guildies, h/h) and what you'll be doing with them, as to which class would be the right one for you.

It's just what you prefer. If you would rather be on the frontline dealing damage, or in the midline supporting the party, with some damage?
My main was a derv, since i got 30 titles on him, i've barely used it, as imo, it's a boring class, although there are a lot of different styles of builds for a derv to run. As for paras i find them more interesting to play, but they are only ever used for running imba, so they are pretty much a 1 trick pony.

Neither one of those classes are fun in PvE. Dervish dies a lot and Paragons are really limited and therefore really boring.

Considering this thread was made a year and two days ago, I think they already made their decision.
