Guild Wars Problem
Skull_Pinho
Hello Guyz.
Well from 6:30pm to 8am, my guild wars doesn't work, its like i keep watching load screen to the map, but people can see me on the map, or it enters and i try to walk i keep stuck on my screen and people keep watching me moving, it started happening 1 month ago, and i don't know what to do, when i play not in that time, the game works perfectly fine.
I contacted my isp and they said:
Following the Email received, reports that the sites in question are not hosted on servers in Cabovisão are dependent on machines where they are housed and the capacity of the same in terms of Internet access, as of all other servers for which this information to be directed, if in its opinion the length of access exists inside of our servers will be a matter of us send information regarding time of access to the pages in question through the command tracert followed by the ip of the site you want to access.
My pc can get guild wars working easily, what should i do?

6:30pm to 8am Every Day? I mean Every single day? If so it has got to do something with set restrictions on your computer or your wireless router. Can be fixed by resetting it. Either that or your ISP is messing with stuff they shouldn't be. Maybe your ISP is running maintenance but ANet was also running maintenance like a couple days ago....
Skull_Pinho
Yes,Every single day,
Well, it happens in all the computers i got, in the laptot and in the normal one, and yes im using a router with wireless , so if both PC don't work, or is my isp or my router.
But i think it isn't the isp, cause 1 month ago was prefectly, so i guess i will try reset router.
How i do that?

Might be an external problem, contact your ISP and have them look into it.
Skull_Pinho
And what should i say to the ISP?
Tarun
Basically what you've told us. That it happens on all computers in your network and even with a direct connection to the modem.

Maybe a tracert would help?
Using the -diag switch would generate one, if I remember correctly. Just start Guild Wars from a command prompt (Start->Run from XP, directly from the search bar in Vista/W7) - assuming your Guild Wars is installed in the default location, try this:
Cut 'n paste that and hit return - post the results here.

^ To help Snog out, it's:

Thanks, Tarun - I'm always misplacing those damn quotes.

Actually, depending on the make of the Router, unplugging it for 30 minutes may not be enough, espically if its a setting that has been set ( maybe someone clicking around not realizing )
You should log into your router manually from your computer and check the settings on it, to make sure there are no time restrictions on the router, also i believe there are settings in windows that allow you to restrict times that the system can use certain features etc.
But id run with the router settings one first.

I have the same problem with my guildwars. I dont belive its the isp or the router.
EDIT: Forgot to say that my ISP is exactly the same then Skull Pinho, and i'm the excat condiutions on him about firewalls and spywares and antivirus stuff. I Recently opeened a thread if you wanna see what i explain in there: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10391598
I hope you guys can help us with this one because its relly stupid. I'v always played w/o any kind of trouble and any kind of lag with this ISP, but this last month has been aughfull (i dunno if this is a ISP problem or a GW problem though, but...)

I just did the tracet that was sugested by Snogart (its actually, 11:59 am in the place i am), but i dunno how to analyze the results it gave me :P
Anyway, i saw a section, named: " = Checking server connectivity" and it says "connect succeeded" in every site it serached. Dunno if this means something or not though lol.
Pls ask for more info about the result of this test if needed.
btw, rb.widow suggested we check our router specifications manually, but i have no ideia how to do it. IF you could help us with that i would apretiate.
tkx in advance for any kind of help/Support you can give us!

If you two are having the same sort of issues and have the same ISP, then it's most likely the ISP.

Shall i report them what we sayed in this thread and that our PCs are able to run GW w/o any issues. And shall i say to them that i never had any problem till since last month or so?
Btw, you are prolly corect by sayig its all about our ISP, since I use CABOVISAO when i am at my parents house (and its when i notice this problems). Because when i am at my house (and i dont have any issue playing GW or surfing the internet), i use CLIX wich are 2 completely different portuguese ISPs. Anyway, 1 thing that i fell strange is the fact GW is the only MMPORG i fell this issue when i'm playing in my parents house. For instance, I play Perfect World International and i dont have any issue in playing it, but thats maybe because there are no map switching in that game...i dont no and i am confused with all this.
I apretiate your concern and help, and i'll try to get in touch with CABOVISAO on Friday, since tomorrow i wont be at my parents home.
Cheers! And tkx again!
Tarun
As said in post 11, tell them what you have told us and be ready/willing to answer their questions. Let them know there are others having this same issue using the same ISP.
Snograt
@Tarun; what's your diagnosis of this? If the tracert is showing all hops connected, what is it that's not getting through?
I vaguely remember something similar happening with my ISP a long ways back - nobody in Britain using BT Internet could play GW but I never did find out exactly what was going on. "Traffic shaping" maybe?

Since it's nothing local (in the home) it's either the ISP or, as usual, Anet.

I've seen similar problemswith other MMORPGs, all with different causes:
1) Your ISP is "upgrading" during those times because they are the slow times. Turning stuff on and off
2) Someone is pirating and a lazy admin blocked them via wildcard-blocking IPs. You happen to be using those to connect to Anet
3) Traffic throttling. A LOT of people are downloading at that time, so they throttle the bandwidth.
#1 happened to me, every damn night at the same time. Finally I called and they admitted thats when they were doing upgrades. I got credit on my bill for all time lost

I was in GToB last night when you mentioned this in !All. To me, it's one of two things,
1, is a setting in the router that works between the times stated. Or
2, it's your ISP. And I'm leaning towards your ISP.
According to my firewall, when I play GW's normally it maintains 3 connections. One is to the friends server, and the other two are to the 'map' server. What I suspect is that your ISP is blocking one of the two connections to the map server (as it is to the same IP and port). And this will likely result in the problem you are having.
So I would go back to your ISP and tell them to stop playing silly buggers with your net connection. Unless you do have some carp router setting only allowing 1 connection per IP or port

I had an issue like that several years ago. My guess would also be that it's an ISP issue, most likely related to someone or something using too much bandwidth. This could either be some automatic process the ISP is running, or a user who is hogging bandwidth (applies mostly to cable).
As a mini example of that, sometimes, when my son is running his laptop through the wireless connection, my GW lags really badly if he is downloading stuff (large files, such as TV episodes) through iTunes or whatever.

In my parents home (wherei notice this problem) i use a modem not a router, and i or my parents never changed the modem settings ever since we are clients of that ISP (About 6 or 7 years now). So, since i could play GW before w/o any worries and at all times, i assume with 100% sure that its the ISp then :P
