just wondering as I was mapping in frost gate to finish my cart title and rurik died while i was mapping but rurik died....
was wondering does rurik have to stay alive to complete the mission as rurik died but I didn't get "your party has been defeated" etc. you usually get when a key NPC dies....
can anyone enlighten? - checked wiki and didn't see anything on it
does rurik have to survive to complete frost gate?

No, Rurik always dies in that mission during a cinematic. He is fighting some ele boss that I forget the name of. The same one in the middle of the fort in THK. Rurik gets owned is my fav cinematic in the entire game. That or maybe when Togo dies...

yer I knew he died during the cutscene to Jalis's? cousin - haha loser
but I was wondering if it is possible to complete if he dies fighting stone summit (normal enemies) whilst I am mapping the mission - i.e. I have not finished the mission but rurik has died and I didn't get game-over as you usually do
and togo dying is hilarious

Jesus Christ, the OP is asking if he gets a 'game over' if Rurik dies during the mission, as it does for many other missions in the game.
The answer from wikipedia:
If Rurik dies before all 3 Lever Mechanisms have been activated, the mission continues as normal.

To clarify.
Rurik must stay alive if you are within selection range of him, meaning his name is white on your Party Formation bar.
Rurik can die so long as he is outside your selection range. This makes mapping a breeze, since mapping the southern area puts you far outside of his range.
This is documented on the good wiki:

Rurik can die without compromising the mission, as long as he dies out of sight (his name is grayed out in the Party Window).
...
You might consider allowing Rurik to die out of your sight, as you will still be able to receive the reward and this gives you time to uncover additional areas. http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Frost_Gate

http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Frost_Gate thank you Ariena - think I was using the "bad" wiki - ("good wiki"
but thank you for clarifying this, yes I was mapping the furthermost area of the mission map when Rurik died!
thank you for clarifying this for me
