Most common "Mained" character?
Divinity Coast
Probably the 'holy trinity', - tank, heal, nuke - the Warrior, Monk and Elementalist classes.
MithranArkanere
The ones I use most are Elementalist and Ritualist.
The ones I use less are Mesmer and Paragon.

Ordering is probably Monk -> Warrior -> Ele -> Sin at the top these days. Monk and Warrior were by far the original choices for title characters. That's changed somewhat in the era of SF; Ele became somewhat more popular and Sin became FAR more popular.
Necro's likely in between the popular and unpopular groups in frequency. It may have been more popular than Ele until the SF boom.
Rit and Ranger are probably next in some order, with the Nightfall classes and Mesmer being least popular.

My "main" changes from time to time, but I decided to get all the character-based titles on me elementalist.
Now that I got all the gameplay-related ones done (except for a few HM proph missions), she's just there to eat, drink, and be merry as I get the supplies.
For diversity, I'm using other characters for Lux/Lucky/Unlucky/Treasure/Wisdom.

my ranger is my main - just got GWAMM on him today (yay!) - i use him for farming and whatever tickles my fancy
my monk - just for farming, got the LB/SS titles on him but mainly only bust him out depending upon what nicholas wants and whatever that is could be gotten quicker than with using my ranger
assassin - made one just before the keg nerf...only got to reap the benefits of that for the cupcake weekend (4 stacks lol), then boom no more. I'm too lazy to learn anything new in terms of farming on my sin
mesmer is my perma-pre
para - LS 3 camped in boreal station where I left him after getting LS3 - never really played him since
derv/ele/warr - created one of each and died at various levels of trying to attain survivor, kind of made me not want to ever play any of these prof's again lol
nec - hated it
rit - hated it

I've used my warrior extensively, he's my only character that's compeleted all the campaigns. Mostly because It's a very fun and laid back job, getting in there and hacking baddies up.
On the other end of the spectrum, I like playing my monk a lot too, because It's about the opposite job as a warrior. I've had times when I went to get a drink in the other room while still fighting (as a warrior) and come back and not miss a beat, whereas a monk can't get away with something like that.
To answer your question, it's all preference. I have lots of fun being a warrior and hacking things down, but I also have fun as a monk healing and protecting. My brother plays his Necro and Elementalist more than anything, but I'll just usually stick to my Warrior and my Monk.

Main going from most used to less:
1. Mesmer - Has farming, running, condition, interrupt, and damage builds.
2. Dervish - For some reason I enjoy them right now, but it might be because I never used them much before.

My ranger is my main with almost 6k hours on her. The class is so versatile it's my favorite by far. My monk, sin, and ele are my main farmers although I have at least one character of each profession.
Ebony Shadowheart
Currently my main character is my Ele. Followed up by my Monk, Rit, Necro, and then Sin in PvE.
My Mesmer is my main in PvP settings, followed by my Monk, Ranger, and Ele.
When it comes to farming, depending on what item I'm after, I use my Monk, Sin, and Necro.
There's my 2 cents

I have one of each of the melee professions. From most to least used they are dervish, warrior, and assassin. I also have a paragon that I take out occasionally.
Every time I've tried to use a caster profession I really sucked at it, but I'm thinking about trying a ritualist or mesmer again.

My main is an ele, closely followed by a ranger, and a perma. I love mah ele.
